[Bug] Jolla Tablet randomly shuts down

The tablet is randomly shutting down after the recent update - 2.0.1.7. Even when the battery is full. This never happend before the update.

Here are some observations regarding this bug which were already discussed on TMO:

How to reproduce

Turn on the Tablet without the USB cable connected
Turn on WLAN and let it go to standby or just lock it
Wait some hours without using and touching it/ using ssh/ connecting the USB cable or pinging the tablet
After several hours (there is no defined time period since it varies all the time, sometimes also after half an hour) you won't be able to unlock the tablet since it is kind of turned off. Only pushing the power button for a longer time period than on a normal startup process or connecting the charger will turn on the tablet again

Observations

This bug seems to not correlate with the battery percentage
This issue only occurs if the tablet is in standby mode AND the charger is not connected
In quite all shutdown cases (caused by this issue) the bootlog is missing this shutdown
Even with persistent journalctl logging the logs will be vanished/ destroyed on most cases
This issue could also correlate with this issue (constant high CPU usage without connected charger and in standby mode, possibly caused by the WIFI chip and a 'kworker' process AND/OR inability of reaching deep-sleep mode)
It seems to be caused by the Intel CPU (source):

The tablet isn't btrfs, afaik.

Tablet is EXT4 IIRC

I can confirm this. I also got my (genuine) tablet a while ago and seems like that even with the earlier update (1.1.9.30) this bug is present. Also, it might be just me, but it seems to happen more often with 2.0.1.7. This is hard to debug as recovering from this requires hard poweroff and most logs are lost. Probably something to do with deep sleep?

I have a similar problem. When i charge jolla i find it powered off almost every time. This was happening when i had sailfish installed. I installed android and is the same.

A suggestion: maybe label China-tablet related question with [Taobao] or something like that? My reasoning: Even if Jolla (understandably) gives no warranty for the unofficials, that doesn't mean that the community should completely ignore the China-tablet users. In the other hand since not all China-tablets behave like the official ones, we should have a way to distinguish between them in this forum. Right?

A sidenote: the China tablets aren't a uniform blob, but a category of varying entities. Two sellers are known to ship a 32 GB Tablet with genuine hardware and a Sailfish version that works and updates correctly (one apparently ships with unopened sales package and the other is a re-flashed Android tablet). There are additionally six sellers without any published user experiences and a bunch of non-confirmed rumours that most of the tablets sold in Taobao are actually Aigos in Jolla covers and/or only shipped/work with Android.

it's a genuine tablet.. it happens when the tablet is idle some time and when I pick it up it's turned off..

I have similar experience with current Linux kernels on laptops. With current kernels, hibernation and suspend to disk are the key. But these are self configured and assembled systems, the Tablet is from a single source. I'm not sure which kernel the tablet uses. Not really helpful, but may be relevant: Archlinux Wiki You may test suspend or hibernate using a terminal and the following commands systemctl suspend or systemctl hibernate - if this is supported on the tablet at all.

@moo-crumps @mcuros I can confirm experiencing the same behaviour as the OP sees on my laptop (Dell E7440) but have not been digging deeper into that issue before as I thought it would be an issue of the device as such. If this is a matter of proper configuration, we might end up with a good suggestion for Jolla.

To my knowledge the Jolla tablet runs linux kernel 3.10. My laptop runs 3.16.
