Are there german speaking people at Jolla? Please listen to http://freakshow.fm/fs171-invasion chapter 4 "Kalendar" (00:18:37). The guys are talking/ranting about what is going wrong with all the calendar apps around. And they have suggestions about what can be done better - e.g. for traveling across time zones and waiting for people travelling. Like:

  • Possibility to set an alarm for the end of an event (if you get the travel data from someone and want to pick up)
  • Zero time events (Blip: now something happens. Nothing more)
  • Better time zone handling:
    • Possibility to set time zone for start and end of an event (flight data)
    • Multi time zone view
  • Handling of "this is not my calendar but some events are important for me". So these events are important in some way but not for the events view.

Any other ideas to get the calendar app to the event assistant tool?

What we have now is a shame. I would be happy to get simple improvements like a week view or no peeking to see basic things like week numbers, etc. We can only dream of ambitious features like those listed above.

@Stefanix, absolutely! Making the current joke of a calendar work first should be a priority.

From the "advanced" features, the only one I painfully miss is the option to have multiple notifications for an event. Very useful for e.g. birthdays: two weeks ahead, start looking for a present. One week ahead, send the parcel. On the day, call the person.

I had it 10 years ago on my Palm. It's hard to believe that we have spent the past 10 years going backwards.

Lotus Notes calendar supports almost each feature of the ones listed above and a lot more. Lately the Traveller (or what it is called now) also supports Android. Would be a delight if it works. Of course, it is not for free, and unfortunately I have not got the chance to try out this combination yet.

@atlochowski, bingo! Could you please convert your comment to answer?

@Stefanix: week numbers exists! press, hold, and move a little bit at the month view.

Yes, the proposed features would be cool. I personally don't miss the week view at my Jolla, because of the small display. What about open the source - I don't think that closed source is important for this app.

Idea: show an indication that an event hasn't been synced.

@Stefanix wrote "no peeking to see basic things like week numbers". Yes, they are there, but having to peek to see them is a nuisance. Same goes for the fact that you actually have to patch the code just to get an agenda view - and the usefulness of the default view is... ...limited.

Display too small for a week view? Come on! As @pichlo wrote, there was a very useful calender on the Palm PDA with its few pixels. Jolla should outsource the calendar to http://www.pimlicosoftware.com/

Actually, calendars with week overview (and other useful features) even exist(ed) for Symbian based Nokias, despite the small screens (e.g. on my N79). They did not quite match the Palm ones in quality, though.

Accept, decline and propose an alternative date/time for a meeting entry.

Another quite basic feature I would desperately need to use a Jolla in daily business.

What I truly miss (or jut do not know how to setup) is a continous notification for an event. My Nokia 6230 and the N9 to was capable of bugging me with a notification sound until I snoozed or accepted the event.

i liked the way the 6280 handled the calender widget, in particular to see the bext at least two events, more if there are more events in near future (next day) and if there are no events for the whole next week it indicated this as well

I wish to have a stable caldav support. There is some fix in jolla release loop, but still nothing comes.

in general Jolla should show more information without additional gestures! I made a general request regarding dense information here: https://together.jolla.com/question/85836/general-request-compact-ui-dense-information-decrease-menu-depth-if-possible/

In addition to the already named missing features, I would like to have:

Time zone management.

I assume this means that one should be able to select the time zone of the event. A flight leaves at 12:34 Moscow time.

I miss the possibility to move items from one calendar to anoter. I have to delete an event and create it again in the other calendar. Just added a caldav and want to move all items fron the internal one to the new caldav calendar.

When editing an item the calendar option is greyed out sadly...
