Hi,

I have read all questions (and answers) about the mystery of the folder where sent mails are supposed to be saved. I didn't find a workaround for my issue.

I have an IMAP mail account and, like several other users, I couldn't find my sent mails in expected folders ("Sent", "Sent-mail", or any of their translations as my device is set to French). Same if I set my device to English. The mail server has a web interface, where "Sent" and "Sent-mail" folders exist. They do not contain mails sent from my Jolla.

However, and this is the real mystery, when I perform a search within Jolla-email app, with keywords that clearly identify one of my sent mails, I can find it! However there is no information about the folder where it is saved. Once I found a sent mail, I am able to move it to the "Sent" folder, where it is now to be found normally, including when I browse the web interface of the IMAP server.

So, sent mails appear to be stored in a mysterious, invisible folder until I move them to the standard "Sent" folder.

My questions are:

  1. Where is this damned secret place where my sent mails are saved??
  2. How do I prescribe jolla-email (messageserver5) to save my sent mails in the expected folder without having to move them manually?

All I can say is that I had a similar problem. Never got to the bottom of it.

I understand this is a small e-mail provider, as opposed to common ones like Yahoo, Gmail, etc. Is this the only e-mail account you are having problems with? Does the same thing happen with Yahoo, for example? Also, do you have any IMAP related options in the web interface? Or maybe some options about where the sent e-mails go?

This seems to show the need for a small improvement in the Jolla e-mail client, to display the folder name in the e-mail info view.

My default IMAP provider is eumx.net (European Mail eXchange). Its web interface allows editing folders (rename, create, delete etc.) There is apparently no option for the default folder where to store sent mails: it's always "Sent".

I have an other IMAP account (my internet provider), where sent mails are regularly stored in a folder named "Envoyés" in French with an accented "é". There is no web interface allowing to edit folders.

The problem is perhaps with these French folder names with accented characters: if I rename an eumx.net folder with such accented characters (e.g. "Envoyés"), it cannot be accessed from any IMAP client (laptop Thunderbird or Jolla-email). I suspect the French "é" is not html-coded (é) but with some alternative method (like %C3%A9)

I have no Yahoo or Gmail or MSN or Facebook account. Yes, I'm unlike...

Additional mystery: until I move it manually to "Sent", searching a sent email from Jolla-email succeeds, searching it from IMAP web interface fails.

One of my 7 accounts is provided by my ISP and I use it only for receiving monthly bills from the ISP. In other words, I never send emails from it. Except today, I forwarded one exceptionally large bill to my spouse. Then I went to check if it was sent and to my surprise, could not see it in Sent Items. But, as @objectifnul says, a search found it. I thought, "yey, I can reproduce it!", but then I looked better and found that I have two similar folders: Sent and Sent Items. Of course, the sent email was in the other folder. It was not obvious right away because Jolla does not know how to sort folders so Sent and Sent Items were nowhere near each other. Might be worth looking into.

Issue solved. Explanation:

The IMAP server had a system folder named "Sent" (not user-editable), plus a user-editable folder with the same name. So the Jolla-email client could not isolate the Sent folder in order to create the "Sent-mail" (in English) or "Envoyés" (in French) pseudo-folder, which is required to save sent mails.

I moved all sent messages from the editable "Sent" folder to the homonymous system folder, then deleted the editable folder, then deleted my email account in Jolla-email, then re-created it. Everything OK now.

So the rule is: do not create user-editable folders with names already used by IMAP system folders. If one exists, move its content to the corresponding system folder and delete the homonymous user-editable folder (provided your web interface allows to do so).

I think I did not intentionally create an homonymous user-editable folder. I suspect an email client (maybe Jolla-email, maybe an other one on my laptop) did it.

I had just the same problem with one of my imap accounts....guess it wad the last update. aftet deleting and recreating the account all was fine again

be careful: sometimes (often) Sent folders are created automatically by other mail clients (like Apple Mail) and they require to have different folders. So be careful in deleting sent folders only according to the naming.. It can be a temporary solution, but dangerous since many times the user needs those sent -madly- emails..

This should not be an issue provided the system default 'Sent' folder is kept. Anyway, normally you can't delete it.

Works fine for me. I have two imap accounts set up on my jolla, one is from 1&1, and the other from mailbox.org, both are german providers. When I sent mails from my jolla via that imap accounts, using the Mail app, I find the sent mails in folders named "Gesendet", a localized variant of "Sent". And when I access the imap account via my laptop after that, the sent mails are also visible in the Gesendet folders. So the problem described seems related to the mail provider?
