As far as I can see this is the only hint so far: Presenting the Intex Aqua Fish running #SailfishOS, with the new Sailfish OS logo!

Some life in the Sailfish aquarium would be so great!

Place your bets on the Jolla press event on wednesday i'd say.

Not impressed with what i see. But it doesn't matter since it is india only. Jolla needs nice HW. And so far we don't have anything worthy of the OS. :(

@ApB: I fully agree - personally, I also would prefer a Jolla phone with high specs. On the other hand, it is also the number of devices that makes an ecosystem attractive for both, developers and customers. Therefore, every new fish in the Sailfish Aquarium is highly welcome IMHO

Just ato add: the nice thing about SFOS is that it runs smoothly even on low-spec devices.

2 GB Ram is kind of meh. Gotta love the big screen tho!

Why is it Meh? Ram should be on the basis of what the OS needs, not what is the current trend of the Ram hungry OSes

Aashish ( 2016-02-22 12:57:08 +0300 )edit

Unused RAM is the most expensive RAM, don't ever buy more than you need.

@Aashish In fact SailfishOS is extremely RAM-hungry, more than iOS and more than Android. An Android phone with 1 GB RAM runs smoothly, my Jolla swaps all the time even with two apps open.

Anyway - I want one of those. Any way to get it outside India? I don't even want the warranty, just give me the device.

They have a PR event on wednesday?

tortoisedoc ( 2016-02-22 15:08:19 +0300 )edit

Really? I cannot find any info about that.

@tortoisedoc When is that PR event and where did you learn about it? Thanks!

soloist ( 2016-02-23 10:41:52 +0300 )edit

@soloist I recall seeing info on this on one of the reviewjolla posts. The event itself should be tomorrow, IIRC.

@tortoisedoc Thanks. Yes, obviously the PR event is nothing for consumers as Jolla has not communicated openly anything about that. So: either they have nothing to tell us, or this further proves that @Marius has a point in his comment. Shame either way...

Those are not Jolla officials communication channels, is it the OP who accepted the answer?

@Sthocs, JollaUsers is at MWC on invitation of JollaHQ and ReviewSailfishOS is most reliable source for related news. Both would not report if it is not confirmed officially by Jolla. Jollas press release is expected for wednesday. But i admit @JSE is really hasty on closing questions and in most cases i would prefer to leave questions open for a longer time.

I agree, but since the question was already including a tweet from JollaUsers, I think he wanted an official press release. But whatever, the question is useless anyway, it's not like if Jolla would come answer it ^^

Indeed, I was hoping for some official statement from Jolla

AkiBerlin ( 2016-02-23 00:27:40 +0300 )edit

reopend ;) Sorry @JSE, AkiBerlin was looking for the final confirmation from Jolla, we should be precise on original questions goals before closing in favour to general clean up..

I have my Jolla more than 2 years. Now I need to exchange it - awful yellow burn-in areas at screen (at the guarantee the display was twice replaced !). I was waiting for the next Jolla phone but now they said it will be available only in India! Seems I have to buy something other... I am very sad ...

I'm in the same place.

thargor ( 2016-02-23 12:11:49 +0300 )edit

I have two devices with the very same fault. Yellowish spots near the volume rocker and to make things even worse, the vibrator alarm failed! On two devices with different manufacturing dates! Sorry to say, but the hardware quality of the Jolla Phone is piss poor...

Venty ( 2016-02-23 13:22:00 +0300 )edit

I've just read your comment and found out I have the very same issue :o I didn't see it up till now :/ Ahhh....I could have lived in ignorance without spotting it. Now its even more tempting to try import aqua fish from India after launch considering its estimated launch price :/

Mądry ( 2016-02-23 23:30:42 +0300 )edit

Bear in mind that the intex phone is intended for mass market and the SFOS will be modified to accomodate different needs. I would expect no Developer mode, for example, instead some india specific services in prominent places. To think that an Aqua fish could replace our old Jolla1 phones might be a misconception.

The FairPhone2 certainly will be a mighty upgrade, though. Jolla has announced to provide commercial support for the already nearly finished community port.
