Since jolla aren't going to be doing any more updating, is it possible for us to update dalvik VM to a newer version? eg the device reports back something like v4.1.2 is there a way to update to v4.2 or even better to something newer?

By the way: I have not read much about the Android support on the upcoming Intex phone. Which Android version is supported?

Why do you say Jolla is not going to do any more updating?

Haven't they run OUT of money?

I am among the people who gave freely money for their tablet, and I think I am one of the many unlucky who isn't getting the tablet, but hopefully get my money back.

Also regarding the phone version, I informed them early of a bug regarding the orientation (horizontal/vertical) for the SDL2 library which is used for games but they have done NOTHING. Not only this, I followed their recommendation but they still reject my games. I have 13 games ready and they reject them, not because of my code but because my games are in horizontal (portrait) mode and isn't compatible with their idea.

A few years a go had updated my tablet (HP Touchpad) with original OS webOS and made it dual boot, both webOS and Android v4.1.4

Now I've found a new Android ROM v4.4.4 and updated it again. So my 6 year old tablet can run a newer version of Android than my much younger jolla phone. Also have found ROM for Android 5.0 (Lollipop) and even Android 7 (Nougat). The only reason for not updating to the latest ROM is that some hardware features of the Touchpad (like camera) don't work 100% but they are working on it.

So I cannot imaging jolla (newer hardware) has a problem updating to the latest Android version. They only have to allocate resources

there doesn't seem to be a technical reason for not updating to android API level ≥ 17. Currently SFOS only supports opengl ES 2 but version 3 is just supported but not mandatory for 4.4-KitKat The same is true with bluetooth LE. There is 'support' in KitKat but it is not required... ART is a technology preview in API 19 and not mandatory either (it shouldn't be implemented in SFOS because it produces code that demands more main memory which is bad for jolla1 and the advantage of starting apps faster is not good enough to impement this)
