My battery started very fast draining overnight. Before, it would last in standby mode even for a couple of days, but then suddenly only 3-5 hours. The problem persisted over reboots. There seemed to be a process called signond taking around 20% cpu time almost constantly.

What seems to have happened: The email login credentials were expired (password changed), but there is no notification to the user. The signon process silently drains the battery.

What should have happened: User should be notified of expired email credentials. After that, the signon process should stop trying to retrieve email from the server, until the login credentials are updated.

Steps to reproduce:

  1. In accounts menu, set up a non-gmail email account
  2. Set it to retrieve emails instantly.
  3. With your email provider, change your email password, but don't update it on your phone settings.

Steps to resolve: Update your new email password to your phone in the accounts menu.
