Sailfish OS on Nexus 5X / Virtual machine upgrade

Here is the story, I loved my Jolla phone, especially the UI, despite a dead speaker making me miss phonecalls :D. But when you're designing mobile apps, the market reality is that you need Android and unfortunately 4.1 is really to old. Lots of SDK don't work, and I can't demo the app we're developing on my own phone, that's kind of silly.

So I end up with a nice phone but a poor UI... I know lots of dev adapt Sailfish OS to other phone, so my question is would anyone have adapted it for Nexus 5X ? A dual boot would be the perfect solution for me.

Alternatively, could anyone give a CLEAR information on the plan of virtual machine upgrade ? (I would even prefer a no that no information on this point).

Thanks to all

Nexus 5 is already supported by a community port. See for yourself - the steps to install SFOS: https://wiki.merproject.org/wiki/Adaptations/libhybris/Install_SailfishOS_for_hammerhead

Nexus 5 is one phone, Nexus 5X another, I would like to be sure the same port is working

You are right; Sorry, I was too fast on that. For documentation, here are the specs: Nexus 5X -vs.- Nexus 5. So I wouldn't be too sure that it works on both phones.

Talking about Android support in SFOS, Aliendalvik is created by another team, and they probably still stuck on Dalvik virtual machine, which was phased out in the release of Android 5.0 (Lollipop), where apps are now processed with ART

sailfish has been ported to nexus 5x to a sort-of-satisfying degree. from the original thread 29.1.17:

Working: Audio (Music too from what I remember), Calls, Texts, Data, Wifi

Not Working: Fingerprint scanner, Bluetooth, Camera, Sensors

its being worked on, still early days but there were major hurdles in the adaptation

@r0kk3rz. Today I have tried to install Sailfish OS on Nexus 5X without success. See this discussion at XDA developer. What can I do if the boot process only shows the Google logo?
