(this thread is reviewed on a monthly basis)

Q: How can I suggest a new language?
A: Add an answer below, if you have checked it hasn't been requested yet.

Q: My language was added to the translation tool, great thanks! How can others and myself enjoy translating it the most?
A: The answer is here.

Q: My language hasn't been added yet :(
A: Ensure it has a coordinator assigned, and if not, nominate yourself. Then we'll add your language to the tool.

Q: What is a coordinator?
A: The answer is here.

Q: How can I test the translation on my device?
A: Ping @martonmiklos and ask to build an rpm for your language. If desired, the localisation packages will be published on OpenRepos. You could also manage the RPM build by yourself. Here you can find the scripts used for building the current packages.

Cheers!

Is there any way to request another l10n related improvements? Like these two issues: https://together.jolla.com/question/128661/localization-aware-date-display/https://together.jolla.com/question/128428/people-app-start-first-character-sorting/

Especially of interest for the "Aurora OS" fork - Armenia has a large community over there.

check if your accepted suggestions from last two months haven't gotten lost/reverted by accident

ok [10 chars]

atlochowski ( 2017-03-13 21:58:56 +0300 )edit

Problem investigated and a way out found: all accepted corrected translations of official languages that have been made by community coordinators (not too many cases) between the end of last l10n round and today can be recovered by finding "User suggestions" with _no user icon_ next to them. E.g. the case of "Person anrufen" string in German. I will mention this in the official announcement tomorrow :) Sorry for the inconvenience this might cause you!

Please add dhivehi language I (@galhi) would love to contribute

Wow very exotic language! I'm afraid I cannot find it in the Pootle tool, which means you would have to provide us with its POSIX locale abbreviation and a how many plurals it has (and their formula). If you need more explanation from us on that, just ask :)

sledges ( 2017-09-20 19:50:31 +0300 )edit

Number of plurals : 2

Plural type : One/other (classic plural)

Plural equation : n != 1

Text direction : Right to left

Language code : dv

Not really sure what POSIX locale abbreviation is ... I thought it's language code so I included language code above if it's not that please let me know

@galhi, unfortunately SFOS does not support right-to-left UI, please keep an eye on this request: https://together.jolla.com/question/35088/ui-support-for-right-to-left-written-languages/

Belarusian (Latin)

I see that previous attempt to translate SFOS to Belarusian (Taraškievica) failed. It's not finished, it doesn't have a coordinator and it has a lot of mistakes. I'd like to translate SFOS to any form of Belarusian language (preferably classic one in latin, but I could do official version in cyrillic as well).

And btw, I created two Belarusian layouts for personal use. Should I share it somewhere? Is keyboard contribution thread still alive?

@hlebk, current translation suggestions are mostly Cyrillic. What is the status quo in the country, Latin vs Cyrillic?

Turkmen

Hi @jolla, @sledges, @jahonen @holger

I have some great news for Sailfish OS and Turkmen users around the World!

Over 50 files translated into Turkmen and proofreaded + terminology file! They are ready to be uploaded for Sailfish OS now. The other set of files is in progress to be translated soon.

So, to upload the hard work - could you please, add Turkmen language (tk) to start and continue Sailfish OS translations into Turkmen!

Please, assign me as a translator/coordinator to support Turkmen translations, make QA, improvements and possible updates or corrections. I am very excited to provide mentorship and help for Turkmen language on this localization project, so hope that translations will grow along with Tajik language.

Thank you for prompt reply, Victor

@sledges@jahonen@holger@martonmiklos

Important note: Turkmen translators for this localization project are local residents, who currently reside in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan. I have already provided a series of trainings for them on how to use translation tools, keep the consistent style and terminology, understand the variables and tags in the source text. During the last translation session it was agreed with translators, so they try to keep their translations in a manner, as if the translated text was initially created in Turkmen for Sailfish OS, this approach should help to avoid word-to-word translations.

Have a great day! Victor

The following files are translated so far and ready to be uploaded once Turkmen is added to the Portal: ambience-dna 100% nemo-qml-plugin-contacts-qt5 100% libcontacts-qt5 100% ambience-sailfish3 100% feature-jala 100% sailfish-content-ambiences-intex 100% ambience-snow-white 100% sailfish-content-configuration-intex 100% contactsd 100% jolla-signon-ui 100% sailfish-content-configuration-turing 100% jolla-calculator 100% sailfish-components-email-qt5 100% ambience-aloe 100% ambience-the-first-one 100% ambience-stella 100% nemo-transferengine-qt5 100% ambience-lime 100% ambience-pink 100% sailfish-minui 100% sailfish-components-accounts-qt5 100% sailfish-archive 100% jolla-gallery-extensions 100% store-categories 100% qmf-notifications-plugin 100% ambience-angrybirds 100% sailfish-btrfs-balancer 100% sailfish-content-ambiences-default 100% jolla-settings-bluetooth 100% libjollasignonuiservice-qt5 100% jolla-mediaplayer-radio 100% sailfish-upgrade-ui 100% ambience-black 100% ambience-poppy-red 100% sailfish-content-partnerspaces-intex-tutorial 100% jolla-devicelock 100% sociald 100% sailfish-components-telephony-qt5 100% sailfish-mdm 100% simkit 100% jolla-notes 100% jolla-gallery 100% jolla-gallery-facebook 100% jolla-settings 100% as-daemon 100% jolla-settings-sync 100% feature-omp-sdk 100% sailfish-weather 100% jolla-keyboard 100%

Turkmen Language Support

Dear @sledges@jahonen@martonmiklos

A backup of Translated files in XLF format is available here: https://github.com/Ibragimov/Turkmen-Language-Support-for-Sailfish-OS

Could you please, upload in batch all those files to Pootle portal.

Thank you in advance, Victor

Victor Ibragimov ( 2019-12-09 10:12:23 +0300 )edit

@Victor Ibragimov, you are now the coordinator https://translate.sailfishos.org/tk/

Please refer to @nthn about how they uploaded their offline translations for the whole Dutch (Belgium) language as per this comment.

sledges ( 2019-12-11 18:02:01 +0300 )edit

Dear Sailfish OS Team and @sledges Thank you so much for including Turkmen language. At the current stage it was decided to upload translated files one by one and make sure that every added string is correctly aligned with original source files.
