hi guys,

so some of you may have seen my lengthy discussion with a new user here and during that three were actually some questions that came to mind:

  • how do we stand on swearing? is it cool / acceptable / frown upon but tolerated / inaccaptable?
  • how do we stand on direct insults? all fine / accaptable as long legal / not ok (and where do we draw the damn line?)
  • is there any anything we dont accept? racism / sexism / etc ? (spamming of course)
  • if someone breaks these rules - what do we do about it? kindly ask to stop / instantly flag offensive?
  • how many flags does it take for action to be taken? and what happens then?

those are just some things that i was thinking about. im always trying to be nice and considerate, but today was really hard not to swear.

maybe we can get a discussion going, maybe somebody know some rules from other places? i would think sth that isnt really too restrictive and short - but i feel like a few things have to be set straight. what are your opinions?

The general rule is "don't be an idiot" and so far things are working just fine.

No need to overthink stuff like that.

hmm i tend to overthink stuff... i think it would be nice to get a response from official site on what would definately get you into trouble

You find some guidelines here: https://together.jolla.com/faq/ I think an unwritten rule is to behave like you would in real life - have manners and be kind, fair, respectful to others. I don't think we need a 'rulebook' and everyone can contribute to keep the community in a positive light. There haven't been big issues on TJC and spamming, insults, offensive behaviour, etc usually gets removed by moderators pretty quickly. Whenever you flag a comment, the moderators probably get a notice and decide whether they remove the content/user or not.

personally, I was 5 seconds away from closing the question, as it is (by tjc definition) too subjective/argumentative or is not a real question. When I say not real, none of us hear can do anything about, except to say, "don't use aptoide". As for the so called 'correct answer' on the page, there is no correct answer - that question/argument could spew on for months. But I'm not being the monkey who closes it and taking sh*t for doing so, even though, like all of you, I'm entitled to close if I feel it's right to do so......but it seems people like a good argument and the OP clearly doesn't mind upsetting others with his/her views. Great, I'll get the ice-cream and popcorn and watch it unfold - now, were is the Michael Jackson meme of him grinning, stuffing his face with popcorn? :D More to the point, as @caprico points out general FAQ's;.....

What kinds of questions should be avoided?

Please avoid asking questions that are not relevant to this community, too subjective and argumentative.

What should I avoid in my answers?

together.jolla.com is a question and answer site - it is not a discussion group. Please avoid holding debates in your answers as they tend to dilute the essense of questions and answers. For the brief discussions please use commenting facility.

What kinds of questions can I ask here?

Most importantly - questions should be relevant to this community. Before you ask - please make sure to search for a similar question. You can search questions by their title or tags

We don't need more rules, we need people to adhere to common sense and what is already laid out in the FAQ.

As for swearing, I don't personally disagree with it. It's a way to express dismay or anger but of course, is generally considered as inflammatory and so should be avoided - but; we are all adults here?, or are we?, I do wonder at times.

yeah the faq says basically its up to the community. have there ever been posts deleted by mods except for spam?
