this is good news, the price is fair, but no warranty for me kills the deal. I'll wait to get a commercial version.

Interesting and annoying at the same time. So, we have to buy another phone to become part of this?, nice, I already bought 2, does that not qualify?, I guess not, I have to buy a 3rd phone to be part of a course?, wow......perhaps I better go away and read and digest some more. So now Jolla has 2 incomplete handsets in the market, despite the shop looking like WWIII has hit it. A thank you for loyalty?, what?, by selling more stuff to us....is a thank you?, sorry, I don't quite follow.......no,no,no, as a thank you, you might send a t-shirt, a few stickers, a free TOH or something tangible, not put your hand out for more money!, oh well, here's another Jolla venture I will not be buying into - thanks, but no kiitos

I'm 49 years old now and never in my life had a device repaired under warranty - they either work flawlessly until I no longer need them or they break after the warranty period. So that's really no issue, especially given the low price.

What I'm interested in: Comparing the specs it seems it's a re-branded Intex Aqua Fish (or something that should have become the Aqua Fish... I wonder what happened to the project.) Is this Jolla's way of offering the device to EU customers while still keeping their (likely) contractual obligation of not selling consumer phones? Smart move, I'd say. :)

I guess that the Jolla C, seems to be a rebranded Intex AquaFish , will be back as unlimited Edition after the 1000 devices are send out.

I think the unlimited Jolla C will not have a orange backcover, so the Jolla C Limited (orange) will stay indeed limited.

I´m right?

Well I dont have anything against Jolla C being rebranded AquaFish, but I have no intrest in aquafish with superapps. Its pure sailfish for me or back to android when my current Jolla breaks.

I thing its in general good news that Jolla is(was) "selling" us finaly new phone.

But overall I'm dissapointed, why? Still no official replacement batteries for orginal phone. Again a product with very limited availability, and with no warranty.

So majoraty of us sailors with orginal phones are left to the seas wondering will we ever get new phone to continue our life with sailfish OS or official spare batteries for our old phone to extend its life. Its been 2,5 years since the first phone was released. And if Jolla continues with these limited product runs, sailfish will allways stay a marginal OS with no mainstream apps. That means no intrest from wider userbase and that loops back to no mainstream apps.

"As a thank you for your loyalty, we've just announced a new program for you, the Jolla community!"

More accurately "for 1000 fastest" and rest of us community are left with nothing AGAIN.

I was on kickstarter for tablet that was in the end total failure. And now we who were with you Jolla then are left outside of this thing witch you say is "a thank you for your loyalty" and "for you, the Jolla community!"

Again I feel left out and let down by you Jolla

Hi all!

For anyone who is wondering about warranty, we already have mentioned that we are going to help you out and try our best to provide you with a service at our developer care.

Also, if the device is received by you as a broken-defected device then there is a 14-day right for you to send the device back.

Cheers,

James

14 days isn't a warranty, it's a joke. Why 1000 people would go for this is beyond me, £1 says most of them haven't read the SP properly and are just desperate for a better phone, so they'll be in for a surprise when it conks out. They need decent, paid app's to encourage dev's to actually develope some, so more hardware MF's will consider taking a punt on something other than Android. " try our best to provide you with a service " would have me running a mile after the fiasco I've had with mine, which is why, in the immortal words of ' Dragons Den ' . . . . . .. I can't invest and I'm out. . . . . . .

@davekelly: Some people (such as me) might just want a second Jolla phone so that they can use one as their primary phone and one as a development device. While I am as disappointed as everyone about the trouble Jolla has gone through in the last months, I always had the feeling that they are trying their best to make everyone happy.

At least in Finland we have laws that guarantees us 6 months of protection against faulty products. Waranty is totaly optional service provided by seller, but usually there are laws that give consumer rights and protection against faulty products.

mattl ( 2016-05-27 13:23:34 +0300 )edit

I've never thanked the EU for anything and don't intend on becoming a fan any time soon but I thanked them silently when the first year of owning the device was up and it went faulty in the second year as well, twice. . . . . The OS is brilliant, their relationship with hardware is beyond sh*te and they should stay well out of it, the tablet fiasco should have taught them a lesson but oh no, now they 'thank' the community with a device that has NO WARRANTY to speak of, so thanks, but no thanks . . . . . . .

davekelly ( 2016-05-27 21:17:13 +0300 )edit

There is no 6 months protection in Finland. There is actually a right to return a mail-order product for whatever reason during 14 days. The consumer protection law assumes that products should work as long as they can reasonably be expected to. For a phone that is _at least_ two years. That doesn't give a right to return the product during that time, but obliges the seller to repair the thing. In other EU countries the same protections is usually called a mandatory 2 year warranty. In Finland, warranty is optional extra.
