Some users do not use SD card. But they can still make a backup to phone memory and then move it to the other place if need. So why new version of 2.0.2.43 not allow to make backups without SD card?

Backup on computer (PC or MAC) is needed, as long as a cery basc app for Win/MacOS is needed!!!

A bit long winded, but at least the backup is OFF the device, as it wold be with a memory card. Personally, I think this is a better system than previously, but there is much polishing to be done for the app.

@Markkyboy Thanks your images. Maybe I didn't describe the question clearly. I would like to make backups to phone memory.

I fully understood your question, no worries there, I suppose I am trying to say; you will no longer be able to backup the way you describe, this is just my view, my opinion. As per first image, if there is no memory card, there is no mention of alternative backup except by cloud /dropbox.......I've found no option to backup like we used to pre 2.0..2.

Perhaps you should tag your question as a Feature Request - to bring back the original way, along side new options.

Design decision? I can give you my personal view:

  1. Backup on device is not necessarily a backup - you lose/break the device, you lose your data and device.
  2. Jolla1's EMMC is very limited - 16GB for system, data and backup is too cozy.
  3. btrfs issues with volumes too full. I hope I don't have to expand on this.

Now, for the future:

  1. Buy an SD card? really... they aren't that expensive. Get a 32GB one. Really... just don't drink those beers this weekend and you'll have plenty of money.
  2. You can vote for that feature request about backing up to the internet or something like that.

I could get .vcf file with all contacts before even the phone didn't equipped with SD card(make a backup and then get it in /home/nemo/.vault). But with 2.0.2.43, I can't do that. And you know that some SD cards are not compatible with Jolla.

@misc11 It's more convenient to backup messages and contacts with "backup" function. Of course images can be copied easily.
