When the battery is empty and the device is then connected to charger, I can't figure out how to turn on the phone. When it shows on the display that it is charging, for example at 1%, pushing the power button to turn on the phone shuts it down. Then, after shutting down, it resumes the screen telling the current charge. Because this seems to be feature to protect the battery, I would hope it would have some indicator of the moment you can turn your phone back on.

This has been discussed a bit here: link, but I don't think this is a duplicate because I am having the idea of telling the user when it is possible to turn on the phone.

could be as simple as making the charging icon be red until the battery reaches some "safe" level of charge (i.e. enough to take the surge of powering on), after that the icon is white.

Yes, device won't stay in USER mode if battery level is 1% or less. There is plan to make this more clear for user by giving some visual feedback. Current "workaround": wait that battery gets 3% before trying to boot to USER mode.
