When the screen of Jolla C is off, it sometimes keeps making a ticking sound with irregular intervals. Sample

It doesn't bother too much, expect maybe when trying to sleep and the phone is in the same room.

I'm guessing it is a hardware problem, and if so, I'm posting this so that Jolla may inform Intex about the possible speaker problems (assuming the similarity of hardware).

For me it seems, the sound comes from the upper area near the camera. I thought it could be from the cooling down of the device after usage (i.e. the heatsink or something).

The Bug finally got fixed!! SFOS 2.1.0.10 (Early Access) includes a fix for the clicking camera bug, which does work according to my tests so far. Finally I can use the camera without having to reboot the phone afterwards :)

Good job Jolla ! I'm really curious to know what was the origin of this problem...

ced117 ( 2017-03-23 22:40:03 +0200 )edit

Apparently community contribution as far as I understood correctly, this fixed it: https://github.com/KonstaT/sailfishos_kernel_jolla_msm8909/pull/1/commits/8be5eb41211162b8ab44e4c2f8a7dbc9d923ea39

Not sure what it means, but looks like the "lens parking" wasn't succesful somehow.

@Acce Good catch, thanks ;)

As of now it seems that update 2.1.0.10 will contain the fix. We are testing it.
2.1.0.10 is expected to roll out in the next couple of weeks.

Unfortunately the issue still present with the 2.1.0.9 release. Any information from Jolla on any workarounds would be highly appreciated.

Intex Aquafish when connecting headphones a weird humming sound exists as well prior to launch of any music app, to me its the DAC or circuitboard is not shielded properly or leaking current otherwise through software bugs.

I should add humming sound only exists when plugged into USB charger at the same time. I am using a high quality iPad Apple OEM charger, it would be strange but appears to add to the humming sounds.

Also had a humming and typical gsm/3g connection noise through the earpeace speaker when calling. Though in general this is a completely other issue then the mentioned one here. The one mentioned here appears after using the camera and is a loud clicking noise not coming from any speaker but from the camera.

In my AquaFish the ticking sound was reduced to almost non-existent after I powered off the device, moved the battery back and forth sideways without removing it, and rebooted. This implies that it might be related to bad contact or insufficient current availability if using the phone with increased power drain. Before, the ticking sound was slowly getting worse over months. It became prominent when wlan was used with heavy apps like here maps. I also heard it during a phone call if wlan was active simultaneously with browser on. Anyway now I have one tick at the time, very rarely, still related to increased power consumption and wlan combined. Using 2.0.5.6.

The workarounds are not working, any official statement? (2.0.5.6) Today i was in a call and it started ticking, the other person heard it too, phone unusable to actually call somebody.

I would deeply appreciate if one of the sailors could give us a status update on this issue. If there are any known workaround/unverified patches please let us know/share with us! (I have tried all the mentioned workarounds below and none of them worked unfortunately.)

The issue almost occurs almost every day on my Aqua Fish, and it is pretty annoying to wake up at the night to the clicking (after I used the camera and forgot to reboot before start sleeping). Sometimes the clicking occurs during calls which also very annoying.

To stop the clicking noise just kill the mm-qcamera-daemon (it will restart automatically but the camera should only start clicking again after you use it)

To kill the daemon just issue this command as root (with sudo or devel-su):

killall mm-qcamera-daemon

Everything seems to work without problems after this and I did not get any clicking noise (until I start an app using the camera of-course)

Update:

Sadly this does not really solve the issue every time... I still sometimes get clicking noises after killing the daemon and other users, too...

I've tried kill mm-qcamera-daemon by kill -9 PID and it didn't help. Still clicking noise :(

One solution for me, which helps all the time, is restart AquaFish.

@tom.i

unfortunatelly the situation is the same here.

martonmiklos ( 2017-01-03 12:53:34 +0200 )edit

Would it be possible to put this command in a shellscript or simlar and make it user executable by suid or sgid?

I have the same problem on intex aqua fish 2.0.4.14. But 'Im not sure, if it is only the camera (autofocus off). Sometimes I think the speaker 'blobs'' and not the camera. Another strange behaviour: when writing text in sailorgram there is a low hissing on the speaker, which gets louder, if I turn up the sounds. Think it's related to alsa/pulseaudio or whatever sfos is using.

exactly the same symptoms my aquafish has, sometimes it seems to be the camera, sometimes the speaker and the very low level noise when writing in instagram (or right now as i'm tapping here)
