Hi all!

Following a slight misunderstanding around the Aqua Fish sales channels during the weekend, we can now happily confirm that Intex Aqua Fish devices are now available through eBay India.

Aqua Fish is the world's first smartphone running licensed Sailfish OS. With a Quad-core Qualcomm processor and 2GB of RAM you can have the most fluid Sailfish OS experience ever on your 5" HD screen.

We are glad to enter the Indian market through a domestic and well known smartphone manufacturing brand like Intex.

We would like to congratulate Intex and thank them for working with us creating the first ever Sailfish OS licensed device.

Cheers,

James

And also thank them for communicating so well with you! :-/

A launch on eBay, without any announcement, only spotted by some community member... really? It's not even referenced on their website :(

I saw a post from Jolla about it on facebook.

5500 INR translates to roughly 75 EUR. Good.

Hello,

A few days ago,I tried to order a phone and as expected, PaisayPay asks for a picture of my credit card. No problem, except that they ask to send the picture to the email address paisapaydocs@ebay.com but the only answer I get is "the address you sent the email to is no longer available to contact eBay India Customer Service.". They suggest to use an online form (http://ocsnext.ebay.in/ocs/home), but there is no obvious way to upload a credit card picture. I asked for a working procedure but I don't get any answer.

How did you manage to confirm your card ?

You should try this URL from same seller as in India. Here you can pay with PayPal, so no need for sending photo of your credit card ;)

Good news, thank you very much for the link.

OlivierJolla ( 2016-08-22 23:41:27 +0300 )edit

At first, I sent the picture of the face of my credit card with gmail. After couple of days I received an email that payment was rejected because I had not provided the picture. I contacted with paisapay support via ebay chat. They claimed they did not receive the email. There might be some filtering from free email accounts. Or maybe the filtering is on google's side. no delivery error was received. Different email address worked fine.

Sorry to say, but for me it seems that Intex is just clearing its stock. The ebay seller has already sold 81% (26-Jul-2016) of all devices and the counter is just at "381 sold". Will there be new batches? Are there other sellers?

EDIT: Maybe I was too fast to write it off:) It is now advertised on intex main internet page and it is also listed in the intex device list: http://www.intex.in/mobiles/smart-phones

EDIT2: Intex has imported about 18,800 units of Aqua Fish from China with some spare parts as well. https://www.zauba.com/import-intex-aqua-fish-hs-code.html

That means the seller wrote 500 as number of devices available in eBay. I bet the quantity will be reset soon. There is at least another seller on eBay (that does not send outside India): http://www.ebay.in/itm/Intex-Aqua-FISH-with-Qual-Comm-Snapdragon-4G-2GB-RAM-16GB-ROM-8-0-2-0-/142056036614.

It's also available on Amazon and according to this press release it will be available elsewhere soon.

It could well be that the Aqua Fish will disappear soon. A few thousand devices is like nothing for Intex. I can imagine that they are just testing the market. If they don't see interest as expected, they will dump the rest of their devices and pull back from SF OS. Unfortunately it is still difficult to buy the Aqua Fish if you don't live in India. Ebay sellers do ship abroad, but you need an account an Ebay India. To register on Ebay India is not so easy.

Well, that is because it was released in India, and not anywhere else.. So it's not meant to be easy to buy it "anywhere".

And the press release for the release of the product went out yesterday, so I'd be surprised if they were already selling millions and millions of it.

They are now promoting it on the front page of intex.in, so i'd suspect that they might be a little bit more interrested than just "dumping out their stock".

@Stefanix I can log in to eBay India with my eBay account (that is a US account although I'm in Italy, since it's a really old account).

About 75 euros? I've paid quite nice premium for participating 'Sailfish Community Device Program'... :D Is Jolla C and Intex AquaFish really the same hardware-wise? Anyway, good to see any new Sailfish powered device coming...

BTW. I've signed for Sailfish news @Intex long time ago, I've received hell a lot of spam but no single word about Aqua Fish. Not even now when it is 'released'...

@James: any comment on this? What's going on with Intex? Is the partnership alive or this is similar to Nokia&Intel stuff bakc the, related to MeeGo&N9? Nokia was obliged to release at least one device with MeeGo - and they did it but nothing more... :(

Add shipping, VAT and customs processing expenses and you will not be far from the 160-170€ charged for the Jolla C.

Giacomo Di Giacomo ( 2016-07-22 22:49:32 +0300 )edit

@Giacomo: you're kidding, right? even then you are looking at 100EUR at most. I also paid a premium for Jolla C and don't really mind, but this what you write is simply not true...

koshman ( 2016-07-23 09:30:55 +0300 )edit

Modem on Jolla C is different for eurpoean bands, also minor cosmetic differences on the back, different gift box and packaging, VAT + shipping, CE Certification .etc

Plus you know, the actual program you signed up to not just buying a device...

@koshman: Shipping via courier from HK costs about 40 EUR. Add 25% Finnish VAT (as a reference) to 75+40=115 and you get 143,75. Add 15 EUR that the courier charges for customs clearing and you are at 158,75.

Maybe in the future, if the Aqua Fish sells well.

r0kk3rz ( 2016-07-20 11:03:13 +0300 )edit

But without any promotion, as is the case right now, Aqua Fish won't sell much.

yes well, if they're dropping it like a dead fish then that doesn't bode well for future devices does it.

Personally I find this situation very strange, it was supposed to be a SnapDeal exclusive with integrated SnapDeal Super App, and I wonder whether they've pulled out leaving Intex without a distributor...

I have no idea what's happening with sailfish and intex anymore but if it goes on like this sailfish, and jolla for that matter, will die.

utkarsh ( 2016-07-20 14:49:12 +0300 )edit

I am using Jolla 1 mobile for past 1.5yrs. I am in dilemma whether to buy Intex aqua fish or should wait for better spec mobile. Also awaiting for the SoC performance and battery review.

I hope this is for the best and many devices are sold. This would as a consequence bring more developers..... The price is well below the competition, which I think is important in the Indian market. Good luck, Jolla!!

Exactly. India has a nice developer base but this phone needs to be marketed nicely. I am waiting for the official launch. The prices is so cheap that a devel can buy it like a side device.

I'm a novice developer and I'm thinking of developing a few apps for this. The thing is most developers that I know don't know about sailfish and if they do know about it, they don't care about this as there is no good way to monetize the apps. Also ads won't work when there is not enough people downloading the apps. Most of them are developing android apps and they have no incentive to learn Sailfish development.

@utkarsh For any app development people need reference device and with aquafish you can show the beauty of QML/Silica UI of SFOS. Start here for SFOS App development.
