SFOS Browser is based on Gecko/Firefox 31. And this is bad. It outdated, it have vulnerabilities and many bugs, especially in JS-machine. Gecko 31 - engine of 2014 year..

Any movement on this would be great - the native browser is really getting long in the tooth - and as native apps are also not that forthcoming, a good browser is even more important (so it can at least deal with the websites that are the "desktop alternative" to some apps properly).

Please understand that with the lack of official apps we survive by doing things on a web interface.

Work is underway to finish moving it to Gecko 38, which is still pretty old but should provide some improvement.

you can watch the work on this here: https://git.merproject.org/mer-core/gecko-dev/activity

Thank you! But yes, 38 is old too. Do you know, are there technical problems with migration to 45+ version? Or there are any other reasons or, maybe limitations, for choosing exactly 38?

@EfesTess I think 38 is simply the next ESR Gecko Version (45 would be the next of 38)

I believe it was because work was started on 38 a long time ago, and then stalled due to staffing issues, and then the decision was that finishing 38 was easier than starting from the beginning again.

38.8.0 esr has been released the same day as 46.0, so it's a huge step forward...
