This is how I finally got to play Pokémon Go with GPS. This guide is based on this question and this question. Edit: This Guide is tested with the Jolla 1. Jolla C is apparently working out of the box.

  1. Install Google Play Services. Check that you're using the latest version. You can download the latest version there. Choose the "-034" version.
  2. Install google maps and launch it. You should get a message prompting you to give google apps access to your position. Grant google maps access, then close it. You can remove google maps afterwards.
  3. Get a Pokémon Go version that is modded for android 4.1. I used the file link under "method 2" in the description of this video, but I can't guarantee for the integrity of that link. Simply use your favorite search engine if that doesn't work.
  4. Only necessary if GPS isn't working otherwise: Install "gps info" from the jolla store. Launch it before launching Pokémon Go and wait till it has as found your position (You might need to go outside ;)). Then let it run in the background.
  5. Launch Pokémon Go. Choose "Pokemon Trainer Club" (google doesn't work), register an account and then log in.
  6. Enjoy!

Is this for Jolla or Jolla C ? My Jolla C has been rocking Pokemon Go nicely, no issues with gps or anything.

I'll just note that the Google Play services you install need to be up-to-date. I've apparently installed an outdated version and GPS did not work. This is how to fix that (eq. how I did it, I'm sure there are other ways):

  1. install "Play Services Info" from Google Play
  2. if it tells you that your Google Play services are outdated click on the "PLAY STORE" button below, this should bring you to Google Play on a page where you
  3. can update your Play services

After this GPS should work fine in Pokemon GO (still run GPS info first just in case :) ).

Is it possible to get around the requirement of Google Play services? Has anyone tried this with MicroG? I read through parts of a thread on TMO but did not get much wiser.

Anyone tested Pokémon Go on the Jolla Tablet?

Jolla1 is a good tier because, he has got a compass. There is no need to install Maps to get GPS in Pokemon GO, you onl need to go in "Google Settings > Localization" and check Localization Data.

;) Have a good Day

I got Pokémon Go working just by installing Google Play store and services, and there was no need to use Google Maps etc. other stuff. GPS started to work too and there are no problems with it anymore.

The only disturbing thing at installing Google Play services/store is that they seem to take pretty much ram memory and due to that Jolla 1 has only 1GB of RAM, there can be issues with lagging and sometimes Pokémon Go can crash suddently. You may want to close all other apps and services when you're playing PoGo.

This worked and I've tried everything. It worked with Jolla C too. Thank you Sakke. =)
