I can create a backup to the memory card just fine, but when using the "Update your Backup" functionality, it fails. As a result I cannot restore anything in the future. It doesn't seem to matter which existing backup I use as starting point. The journal reports the following:

Jul 28 17:39:15 current estart[5485]: [D] onError:133 - Vault error 8 error 1 2016-07-28T14-07-23.124Z /tmp/vault_snapshot_2016-07-28T14-07-23.124Z /home/nemo/.vault

Well I am unable to skip this "Backup updating" and therefore also unable to create a backup...

Also I quite don't understand what this Backup updating is for and why I am forced to use a cloud service (this at least seems to be the case) to be able to make a backup.

As far as I see it, old backups are updated to the new format so that they are restorable. I did a successful backup and the .tar file is on my SD card. I don't need any cloud service by the way.

Ok there is no sd card in my Jolla Tablet so I am only able to use a cloud service to update the Backup... After inserting a sdcard the sdcard is selected automatically (after mounting the sdcard via settings | storage).

So this really needs to be improved because not everyone is using a SdCard and cloud services, this is a real limitation on the user experience.

I had issues with restore when there was multiple backups. Try moving the old ones to a folder and make a brand new one. It's still an issue, but hope that solves your problem for the time being.

Jolla 1 backup does not work. Jolla C backup works just fine. Both: OneDrive, no SD cards.

I've failed at this too but then realized i do not have enough free space on the SD card, so i freed some space up and now it works. It created a new compressed archive on the SD card but unfortunately i am not getting a restore option at all...

I still have 32GB free on my SD-card and the most recently generated tarball is 400MB, so disk space is not a problem for me.

Read the Know Issues section of the release notes. Size of the backup can be an issue. I don't get why they removed the possibility to select what we want to backup.

Sure, I saw that, but the thing is that I can make a backup, but not update it... and it wants to do that every time I go the backup in.
