I'm a happy owner of a Jolla C since last friday, and overall I'm happy with the phone. but there is a minor thing that seems to be wrong:

I have whatsapp installed, and allowed background tasks an notifications for it in the settings. This works, but on notifications, I get Vibration and LED, but no Sound, regardless of Volume for ringing. I already tried setting another sound for IM-Tone, but no change. For other Android-Apps (e.g. K9-Mail, after been added to the "androidnotificationpriorities" file) work fine with sound. I also checked that whatsapp is configured in the file, and it is.

btw. with 2.0.2.45 (unofficial update) on my Jolla 1 the sound notification worked as expected.

So does anyone have an idea what might be wrong here, and how to fix it?

Update 23.10.2016: Bug is still there with SFOS 2.0.4.14

Update 04.04.2017: Bug is still present with SFOS 2.1.0.11 Early Access

Update 22.08.2017: Bug is still present in SFOS 2.1.1.24 (despite Changelog metioning fixes for Android Notifications)

Update 04.11.2017: Meanwhile I'm using SailfishX 2.1.3.7 on a Sony Xperia X, but the bug is still present.

@JOLLA: Any word on when we can expect a fix for this problem? If there is anything I can do to debug this, please let me know.

I also have this problem. Only Whatsapp is missing the chat-notification sound, other Android IM notifications work as they should. This might have occurred after the update to 2.0.2.48 (from .45), I think the sound was working before.

You can install Zedge application and load Jolla im-tone notification with it if you want easy solution. That worked for me.

Yeah, this workaround is working (I used this method before Jolla implemented the Android notification stuff). But since it was working fine on my Jolla 1 I would prefer a "real" fix ;)

The workaround using Zedge has the disadvantage that you don't get the notification sound if you listen to music / podcast via a native app.

I got the impression that alien dalvic cannot access the audio device while a native app is playing audio.

I found a very simple solution for solving this problem: 1) search for a notification-sound on the web and save it to the android-storage into the "notifications"-folder 2) open whatsapp and go to the settings and select the tone you saved before 3) now it should work :-)

but this sound does not depend on ring volume, it depend on media volume, what makes it quite unusable. setting the ring volume to quite, but whatsapp still disturbes...

if you use the "silent"-ambiance it works!

yes, it's officially described by jolla helpdesk: https://jolla.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/203442828-Setting-up-WhatsApp-for-Android-on-your-Jolla-device

This helpdesk article describes the workaround from before when Jolla implemented full android notifications in SFOS. The current SFOS can use the native notification sounds (and LED) for Android Apps. Its just not working for WhatsApp, which I consider being a bug.
