Yes this is correct. I have once asked Jolla about this same question. There isn't any solution to this. It's due to how Sailfish handles WhatsApp's processes (forcing them to go background won't help). Sometimes after reboot WhatsApp messages/notifications can start WhatsApp process automaticully. I've also noticed that sometimes when network coverage drops (let's say 3G-->2G), WhatsApp may show the last seen thing, but it goes off when you read messages etc.

So there is no solution. It would be great to have native and official SFOS WhatsApp.

There once were two native working Whatsapp clients (Mitäkuuluu and WhatsUp) but since Whatsapp was sold to Facebook they are strictly banning all third party clients so it became impossible/ too costly to reverse engineer the permanent changing Whatsapp protocol - so the two developers are not further developing the native whatssapp apps.

BTW if you close whatsapp (so it won't appear on the home screen as active cover) then your online time won't get updated until you open it again/ push it to the homescreen.

Yes, I'm aware of these native apps. Background processes haven't been successful to me. If I close WhatsApp => last seen but no messages, and therefore if I put it on background => getting messages and so on, but last seen still not working. To my mind this last seen thing isn't so big a deal.

of course! it happens the switching between nets because Jolla disconnects from the net for switching. I've done some tests in WhatsApp post, and with a developer I've found a temporary solution, with an external button. Still testing. The solution is based on the way Sailfish OS closes Android apps (in general) that doesn't close them for real..
