I am evaluating my next phone after Jolla 1 and a lot looks good for the FairPhone 2. But one thing I cannot accept any longer is the terrible UI of the video player (media player). Specifically I want the full video to remain visible when I pause it and I want a better positioning bar.

Does anybody know if the source code is open source? Can I branch it? How do I find this out? What are my chances to build and install this application (even unchanged)? Or is the media player an integral part of SailFish that cannot be built and installed independently? Tips on how to proceed?

The video player is proprietary, unfortunately.

And it should be open-source, as promised. I'm also annoyed by this weird behaviour during pause.

As the player seems to be proprietary, I would suggest another video-player as solution:

If I look at the first screenshot, it looks like the video remains fully visible during pause.

Thanks for the pointer! Currently I do not have time to debug "repo-not-available" but I will try out LLs Video Player. Maybe it already does everything I need and if not I will try to contribute to it. There is also another video player in the regular Jolla store, called "Watch me". That might be a way to go, too. But it needs enhancements for my purposes.

Ouch! I thought WatchMe is just a thumbnailer, but it also plays the videos. The description seems to be only about thumbnails :D

The thumbnails seem to be a central feature, but sadly for me they are even a disadvantage because I need to see the full (long) names of my videos. But Watch me definitely is an interesting option.
