I've tried to download a picture from an email - using both the native mail app and Outlook

Both tell me it's been downloaded, but it's not in the Gallery nor can I find it anywhere using the file manager - either on the built in storage or on my SD card

There are no settings in the Mail app (that I can find) to allow you to choose the destination of a downloaded attachment

I'd have thought this would be a basic function of any O/S

I've just tried this. Emailed myself from PC to Jolla, opened the email on Jolla, the main body of the email is now showing and a tiny thumbnail of the attached image shows top left of the window and next to it it gives the image name and that it is downloaded - tap on the image - Gallery opens and displays the image - the process was faultless for me.

Once the picture downloaded, I am able to see it in:

  • the gallery
  • with file browser in the Download directory there is a "mail_attachments" directory where you'll find your pictures (in individual directories in my case).

Is it a specific picture format? I have tried only with JPG.

it's a jpeg

In outlook, it can give me a filepath - file;///data/sdcard/attachments...

But I can't locate this filepath using the file browser

It's not in my pictures, and the mail attachments folder is empty

It looks like it saves your file in the sdcard, do you confirm you have one? If yes, try this path: run/user/media/100000/media/sd card

I found it in a comment of a jollafr.org article

A bit old thread but I just had the same problem. The pictures are for sure in mail_attachements folder. BUT maybe not in the main folder. It happened to me that my pictures appeared in the folder "6" (simply the number 6 as folder name) and inside where many other folders in the usual style (folder names like 478-1...478-30).

so you really have to check every single folder! The two most comfortable file browsers for this are "CargoDock" and "FileCase". I prefer FileCase because there you can simply go back with a swipe left instead of using the pulley menu like in cargo dock.
