TJC: How should we report comment spam?

This post, for example, contains several spammy comments.

https://together.jolla.com/question/54834/jolla-aptoide-store-app-selections/

I've marked their parents (the original question, and one of the answers) as 'offensive', but obviously it isn't the actual question or answer that is spam, but comments in response to them. I can't see any way of marking a user or their comments as spam directly.

Is that what I should be doing?

Thanks.

@MikeHG - Perhaps to use the give feedback facility, linked at the bottom of every TJC webpage.

@MikeHG, looked quickly at the link you sent, but found not serious offensive comments?

Maybe I just don't understand your concept of spam?

@juiceme - not so much offensive (think they may have already been removed) but we do have a SPAMMER in our midst.......creehackapk is posting nonsense in the comments section, I am guessing this is what MikeHG is getting at......? MikeHg?

@juiceme:

Look for 'creehackapk'.

There's also 'pancard', but that's straightforward to mark as spam because the actual answer as well as the comment are spam. [edit - 'pancard' seems to have been dealt with now]

@Markkyboy: Good idea, I'll do that and direct them to this question so we can hopefully get some 'official' guidance.

@Markkyboy, @MikeHG, now I get it, he is advertizing some hacking tool, right?

I know next to nothing about Android, that's why I did not understand it at first! :)

At the moment best way to report spam in comments is to use the feedback form. (Thanks @Markkyboy and @MikeHG for doing that)

Do not flag the parent question or answer as offensive, because that goes on the record of the question or answer author.

If there will be a lot of spam in comments, then well see if adding the flagging option to also comments would be possible.

Thank you @Keto :)

Cheers!

(and my apologies to those I flagged - they've both got buckets of karma, I'm sure they'll be alright :)

So, this was over a year ago, but we are still seeing a few spammers making onto the forum and posting crap. What baffles me, is how slow admin/moderators are to remove this crap - to my mind, we should jump on it, stopping asap, send the message to these fkin idiots that their shit will not be tolerated here on TJC. I have offered my time to help but no response was forthcoming....I also do realise, that the problem is not prolific and ultimately doesn't warrant the attitude I express - I just hate/don't understand the mentality behind the idiots who do this, are they just stupid kids?, are they earning money from this kind of spamming, somehow?, I have no idea, I just see it as completely mindless and would love to put my hands round the necks of such people and ring it, hard!

Hi @MikeHG, and thanks for a splendid idea! The topic is already discussed here, though: https://together.jolla.com/question/80147/feature-request-option-to-flag-comment-as-offensive/

As the thread linked is also tracked by Jolla, it might be the best place to continue this discussion.

Hello, and thanks for pointing out that thread (I didn't see it because I was searching for 'spam').

It's certainly related, but I'm not sure it's the same question: that asks for a feature which would solve this question, no doubt, but in the meantime it isn't clear what we should do about spammy comments.

MikeHG ( 2016-08-27 18:12:15 +0300 )edit

Spam and offensive posts are treated the same way here. Find spam, flag as offensive, and after a couple of flags it will be removed automatically.

lakutalo ( 2016-08-27 18:38:48 +0300 )edit

Right, but I can't flag it as offensive.

So the question stands: what do the spam hunters want us to do, until (if ever) the button gets implemented?

Sorry, if I was not clear enough. The flag offensive button actually is meant to be the anti spam button, too. So there is no distinction made here between spam and offensive content, as both are wanted to be deleted. Another way, whilst the desired button still being unavailable, would be to call on an admin or moderator using their nick including an @, e.g. @Keto. They will tell us alright what they want us to do. :) Last but not least, you could also create an upstream request at askbot.com directly.
