Scenario
- User has disabled "Quick call" in the Phone App (Settings > Apps > Phone).
- User wants to see the communication log activities for a specific number / contact from the call log list.

Expected
When the user taps a phone number or contact name in the call log and taps on 'Activity - Past Communication Events', a list of all timestamped missed / incoming / outgoing / SMS log should be shown for that particular number / contact.

Bug
The communication logs for a particular contact is only displayed if the user has saved the number in People app. For phone numbers that have not been saved, no log is displayed (blank view).

Steps to reproduce the bug

  1. Make 2 or 3 missed call to your Jolla phone from a phone whose number isn't saved in your contact list (People app).
  2. Open the Phone app and find this phone number in your call log.
  3. Tap this phone number.
  4. In the next view, tap on 'Activity - Past Communication Events'.
  5. No communication log is displayed.
  6. Make the flick down gesture on the same view and select Save (or Link).
  7. Add / Save the number to your contact list.
  8. Now go back to the call log list in the Phone app.
  9. The phone number will have been replaced by the 'contact name' since you saved it.
  10. Tap this contact name.
  11. In the next view, tap on 'Activity - Past Communication Events'.
  12. The communication log will now be displayed.

@chris.adams - I had emailed care@jolla.com about this and they said they don't deal with bug reports.

Are those repro steps still valid for 3.2.1.20 after the design changes in the Phone app?

Jolla guys do not use SFOS, or? :(

Of course this is still valid, slightly different due to the changes in phone app. But still easy to follow and reproducable!

You may also call any (unsaved) number and reproduce with only your phone.

It's been like that for awhile, I wish Jolla would spare some of its time on improving basic Sailfish apps, esp the ones that has not have not been opensourced. Like Phone app (dialer, calls history), Galery etc...

I noticed this problem also on Sailfish X, 2.1.3.7.

I had called the same number twice and wanted to check afterwards what day it was - no call history was displayed. When I saved the phone number to a contact, the two calls were displayed in the call history / communication events.

I've implemented a way in middleware to fetch the activity list for unsaved phone numbers. I'm proposing a merge request to get it upstream. I'm asking now for review, and I guess that maintainers will discuss the implementation or find issues in the proposal. So let's wait for the review.

I'll keep my fingers crossed, maybe community will be able to push Sailfish OS past early 2010-ish state to resemble modern mobile OS.

Brilliant, your approach is clean and unobstrusive.

@juiceme, thanks, hopefully I can convince Jolla people the same way ;)
