If I choose to create a backup before system upgrade on the system upgrade page it constantly fails. The backup screen appears but stays black besides the headline (I waited for about 8 hours but it did not proceed). That happened on both devices, Jolla and Jolla C. Creating the backup from the backup page works flawlessly. The backup file on Jolla C has 952.3 MB but the one on the first Jolla has only 66.4 MB.

I had the exact same error on Jolla C. On J1 I skipped the backup from upgrade page.

I skipped the backup after a few attempts on both devices just to verify that it's a constant bug. The devices were totally stuck on the backup screen so I had to reboot.

I don't think you have to reboot in this situation. I had the same behaviour, but I just turned the screen off and on again (hw button), and ended up in the lock screen, where I could open the home page and shut down the settings app (which WAS stucked).

I can't reproduce it right now because both upgrades are done, but I'm quite shure I woke up the Jolla C this morning and after the lock screen it took me straight back to the stuck backup. Swiping to get back to app overview did not work neither top swipe to close application. (Edit: No idea if that matters at all to fix the bug.)

Backup hangs also for me, same with the previous update. I had to reboot, as from the lock screen I could only get back to the backup screen.

My solution: 1) Deleted all old backups, that means all files inside /home/nemo/.vault with file manager (make hidden files visible before) 2) insert an empty but formatted SD card 3) do a fresh backup

The problem seems to be a) the conversion of the old backup to thew new type - does not work b) backup app needs /recommends an empty memory card (mine was 80% full)

Update & backup worked like charm then.

Have you been able to restore from that backup?

Didn't try, honestly. The tar file looks at least quite complete and backup appp said "ok" during creation.
