Jolla Stock Browser - some ideas and features requests

I am using mainly the stock browser and web cat as web browser. What I miss is or would like to change in the stock browser is:

  • The 'really' scroll down/up options as implemented in web cat. For example, going to the end of some of the jolla blogs is in the stock browser a very long task, I have to scroll, and scroll, and scroll .... I just want to read the latest comments.
    • When going to the open new tab window, the focus is the on the search text box. This hides almost all of my short cuts. I have first to tab on the area outside of the text box before I can hit one of the hidden short cuts. I believe that when you enter an url, you need anyway lots of interaction and time with the UI before you can open a new url. So, I think it makes more sense to show all shortcuts, and when the user wants to enter a new url, he taps into the search box.
    • In some circumstances, I come not out of a page. I have to kill the browser and start it again. The focus is then on an input box and I can't (or I didn't find a way) to go back to the previous page/site. May it makes sense to have a way to come out of a situation like this.

These are some of my suggestions, may this makes sense for other jolla users too. Ralf

I'd like a feature to open a link into a new tab in the background. So that I could for example scroll through a news feed, open the intresting news (pre-load them into new tabs in background) and then read them one by one.

@goldenm See https://github.com/sailfishos/sailfish-browser/issues/455

Personally I'd opt for an extra long-tap context item.

Neat feature, you can hide the kbd any time with pulling downwards from within the keyboard, anywhere in SFOS. As DaveRo pointed out, some is already reported on git but I guess the link is wrong as everything was moved to mer servers iirc. Especially for the browser, there are a lot of requests and ideas already on TJC, please use the tag-search to find them all and up-vote what you like!

@chemist Is github the wrong place to post issues/feature requests? rainemak responded to an issue I posted (as 'revad') the other day. I posted about addons here on TJC and got no response or comment whatsoever.

it would be great to have a feature where you can hold press down on text, then press a link to “copy” it, and then, it could be held in RAM and the used, in others applications, or phone book etc... we could call that “paste”.

An intergrated spell checker would be great too... but one thing at a time.

There is already an issue open for your point about the virtual keyboard hiding the bookmarks (shortcuts): https://github.com/sailfishos/sailfish-browser/issues/338

I have a couple of bookmarklets that scroll to top/bottom. Just two taps - if you put them in the top two rows of bookmarks. I describe how to make them here: https://together.jolla.com/question/81531/add-bookmarklets-support-to-web-browser#138746

I think the user interface of the browser is pretty clever, given the limited space. But it could be more innovative. Anyone remember the original Firefox (fennec) on the N810? ISTR it had stuff off the bottom, top, and both sides. A bit like Sailfish itself.

And I'd like to know where the browser is going. Is there an update planned for 2.0.4 In particular what's happening about addons? Or is it assumed we'll use Firefox for that.

BTW: you can write userstyles for the SFOS browser. I do that a lot to make sites work better on a small screen. But no Stylish addon so you have to load them manually.
