volume change randomly - Jolla C

i noticed that the volume sometimes changes. My ambience has no personalized actions, no volume slider there. After a while I recognised that the volume changes, after I do receive a whatsapp notification. Some time before i installed "zedge" to set up an default android notification tone, for whatsapp, because on the Jolla C there was no tone for it. Now the behavior is strange: If I set the volume with the up and down button to any value, open whatsapp, then i see here was noting changed, so I have to change it here again. I think there should be a global volume setting, not a different on Android and sailfish. For now If I wanna make my phone noiseless, i have to push the down button until noiseless under sailfish, then open whatsapp and have to do the same for android :-(

As you noticed, the setting is different for Sailfish and Android apps. If you want to silence everything, why not use the Silent ambience or make one of your own and you don't have to crank up and down the volume all the time between apps?

thanks for your tip, but first this is a bug in my opinion and second I not using it for making silent only, I do use it for adjusting the volume and i guess it is made for that. And the volume is different, depend on my situation. I do not like to switch different ambience, I do not using them at all. It is very much faster to use the up and down button and more flexible.

Which volume control you're changing with the hardware buttons is context dependent.

If you have nothing open, you're changing the ringtone volume, while if you have something that plays media open, you're changing the media volume. Notice that if you change the volume in Whatsapp, then switch to the native browser, the volume will be the same.

So you can debate whether Whatsapp should be classified like that or as 'ringtone volume', but I'm not sure there's a clear answer or solution: it definitely plays media too, and it may just be that all Alien Dalvik applications are classified as media, because categorising everything available on Android would take a long time...

however, I as a end-user do not care how the system classify aliendalvik, but if I change the volume for the notifications and ringtone I do expect that the android applications also use this volume for notifications, like in my jolla 1 with system 2.0.2.48

  1. If a android (whatsapp) notification arrives, the jolla system volume changes to that level, so it seems like a ghost change my volume setting. This is for me just a bug.

Ah, sorry, I think I understand now.

That does sound like a bug. I suppose they're using a different version of Android as a base, so it's no surprise that there are 'teething problems'.
