I would like to know how many people use Sailfish OS devices worldwide? Or at least something around. Is it more like 50.000 or 1.000.000 ? Anybody got a clue?

As far as I know there were around 22000 Jolla 1 devices sold this can be made out from the serial nos. of the phones sold. Further there were around 500 tablets and we can see from the listings that aquafish has sold somewhere around 2000 nos. and Jolla C around 2000 nos. So taking all these nos and totalling them we come around to an figure of 25000. I would therefore hazard a guess of around 30 to 35000 devices will sailfish.

Nitpick: most tablets and Jolla Cs went to those who already had a Jolla, so it's not a simple addition. The question was how many users. A single user having 5 devices running Sailfish counts only as one.

The numbers might be augmented slightly by ports but I would not dare to guess the numbers. Hundreds at most?

@mettska, the number of installations can be misleading as every reinstallation inflates the count.

Only 2k Intex Aqua Fish sold? I understand that it is a new model, but It seems a very low number for a big market such as India. It's less than one device for every 600,000 inhabitants.

Well the no. of installations depends how many did a factory reset. I must have downloaded android support at least 4-5 times with my Jolla 1. Further lets not nitpick as I know for a fact that most people who had a Jolla 1 have got a tablet or a Jolla C or Intex. Well some new faces are there for sure. I for one have bought 2 nos of Intex phone and am using the same as my daily driver. My Jolla 1 still works but the screen is smashed so considering low price of the Intex have got one extra. The ebay mentions as the no. of devices sold so I got that data from there.

But not everyone downloads from openrepos...

You'd probably be right if the Jolla wasn't sold to your country and if you got it via some contact person in Europe. If others went through that same trouble, they would most probably be a tweaker and would have used openrepos...

Devices sold yes, but not so many use it anymore.

  1. Many lost interest in jolla during the tablet scam and the slow and possible ignored refund.
  2. It's impossible to buy a jolla device in most parts of the world
  3. the devices are low end devices and most of the jolla hardware 5+ years old.

So I would say there might be quite a few owners, but many collecting dust and are replaced with newer devices.

My guess is around 5000 using is as daily driver.

But I think a Highend device plus a full tablet refund can boost sailfish into spotligt again and get some more users...and if they could get netflix, chromecast support. Then we could possably reach 100000ish...

@Dave999 it's sad, but that's the ugly truth. As a european citizen I feel left alone. To get SailfishOS I have to hack an Android or use a phone from India without CE and missing LTE bands or have the luck to get a developer device. So finally I gave up and bought a Oneplus 3.

@shining, at least you could get a Jolla1, here in Australia, We've had Nothing.

I had to import My Jolla1. It's still going string enough for now.

I'm waiting for Either PuzzlePhone or FairPhone to get official Sailfish i.e. (Dalvik and Exchange)
