JollaC behaviour- few apps in store, and backup behaviour

I finally started up my JollaC. I upgraded to the latest OS (2.0.2.51). I tried to transfer files etc from a Jolla backup. This worked eventually, after upgrading the old Jolla to 2.0.2.51, making a new backup to SDCard, and removing old backups from the card.

I get some strange behaviour now.

The JollaC found the backup OK, and apparently restored from backup, but:

  • messages have not been restored - I have no messages.
  • photos have been only partially restored. Many photos cannot be displayed, the thumbnail says "oops, can't show thumbnail" or something to that effect.

In addition there are also very few apps visible in the store. Under the "Jolla" category there are only 8 apps (no Maps for example), under most other categories there are only a fraction of the apps that were available before - most categories are empty in fact. As an example, under "Location and Navigation" I see only 3 apps: modRana, Helsinki Transit Stops, and Perth Trains.

My original Jolla is also showing this apps issue.

What on earth has gone wrong here? Any suggestions?

There is no Maps app for Jolla C in store o purpose. Jolla said you should use Here We Go app which is android app so they hide Maps app in store. You can install Maps app from terminal

devel-su

pkcon install sailfish-maps

OK thanks. But what about the lack of apps in general that I am seeing? (Or not seeing....)

You can use warehouse from openrepos.net to install unofficial clients of most of your android apps in native Sailfish. But ofcourse, the current existing apps are still significantly less than android. Some apps that were available for the Jolla 1 are now not available for Jolla C. I get only 4 apps under the "Jolla" category.

Thanks Satvik. I am aware of openrepos and have used a lot of the apps from there before. What I really wanted to know was why there were so few apps available in the jolla store after my upgrade and backup-restore - a small fraction of the apps that were available before. Something in my ssu settings perhaps? I don't know... or is that just how it is with the Jolla C?

Update: I have done a factory reset of the JollaC, and re-applied the 2.0.2.51 upgrade, and now the jolla store looks OK - I have the "usual" number of apps to choose from. I will experiment with restoring a backup again and see if this triggers the problem.

There are probably two issues here. The first one is that the backup system has some limitations regarding the backup size, as described in the known issues of the release notes.

The second one about the majority of apps missing from the store is probably related to moving the backup from one device to another. When restoring the Jolla account on different device, the device change is not properly handled on the backend side. The store backend probably loses track of the device type and thus does not show all compatible applications. While we investigate if this can be fixed purely on the server side, a workaround for this is to remove the Jolla account in settings and add it back again.

do you have all.vcf file in .vault/People/data in your backup? if you have you can copy this file to main directory on Jolla phone then go to Settings -> Applications -> People -> Import from file
