Did you done pkcon refresh via console first?
Maybe https://together.jolla.com/question/3944/fatal-error-authentication-failed-is-ssu-set-up-correctly/ can help. OK, it's from 2013. But I think, it's worth a try.

You need to be root to refresh packages. Do "devel-su pkcon refresh"
When it asks for password, give the nemo user password. (the password you have set up in the "settings->developer mode" dialog)
pkcon refresh as well as other pkcon actions works perfectly if running as nemo user. Try it.
This is a really bad advice. Running stuff which does not require extra permissions with root privileges is a hazardous and wrong habit. It really increases chance to screw up you system. Please don't profess it.

Did you read this authentication failed is ssu setup correctly and those alike, just use search with "ssu authentication failed"
