A search in Messages application will be very useful. At least by name. Currently you get lost when looking for SMS from a specific contact. Also search for keyword within the body of all SMS-es or within specific thread will be great.

Update - Changed SMS to generic / right term Messages

Yes, please! It's a must! Either search from the message app... or general message search from People..?

This search specific question https://together.jolla.com/question/1286/search-function-global/

has already lot of votes.

Is this one duplicate of the on link?

I personally do not think a global search is what I need when I am in SMS application. I want to search just SMSes there, not applications, nor documents. Also it was stated that a global search is not that easy due to lack of common DB.

I was thinking that global SF search, would appear on various apps and would even able to identify what would be searched e.g. in sms app the messages, numbers and names.

But as @Aard was explaining in his reply he didn't got lot of feedback from N9 users.

Personally I used and liked the global search Symbian Belle was able to provide e.g. when searching the sms messages.

What annoyed me with pretty much every phone I have had so far, is that there is no searching (or filtering) through the history of messages in place.

I would propose that Jolla offers a search/filter option in its messaging apps.

Some simple use cases:

  • you know Arnold sent you a very interesting link a month or so ago, that you need it right now. You open up your discussion with Arnold, but instead of scrolling for ages (as in the olden days), you invoke the search/filter option and just type in http and _presto!_ there it is! ☺
  • you asked several people (per SMS and IM) about what they think about your nifty new TOH, but for the love of all that’ unlike you cannot remember everyone who answered you and scrolling through a dozen or more logs is out of the question. So you invoke the global search and type in my nifty new TOH and in a short while get the list of all messages that include that string with an option to enter each thread at that particular message.

(this comment was originally posted as a separate question, but marked as duplicate)

This is a feature I really miss that was partially present on my Nokia N9 and N900.

The ability to quick search in apps like Messages for either a recipient or message content or even weekday/date really would make it way easier to find information about old messages that may be useful at times.

@Louis : you should make this a comment instead, as it's not really an answer.

This is indeed a basic function for a lot of phones. Lets vote it up!
