General question or do you have a device in mind you want to try porting to? Just out of curiousity ;) EDIT, ah, i see some questions further you ask for details on "Yu". Thanks a lot for your effort and good luck!

As replied by others, you would have to make an update. In general, making updates is not an issue on ported device when you have an initial port ready. For manually built port, you would get new SB2 target when the update is released by Jolla. So, you would have to repeat HADK [ https://sailfishos.org/develop/hadk/ ] chapter 6 procedures and few others in HADK. For example, with recent 2.0.2 upgrade, Jolla released 2.0.2.48 SB2 target that can be used to upgrade earlier releases.

For OTA, you would have to build using OBS. This is described in http://piratepad.net/hadk-faq-v2 . There is an active porters community that would help you as well, reachable on IRC

You will always have to compile and roll out a new version for this device then.

Thanks a ton for timely reply. From where should I be getting the UPDATE source code?

You will find almost everything you ever wanted to ask here: https://sailfishos.org/wiki/SailfishOS :) For porting SFOS the outline of concern is Hardware.

As long as you port the part that receives notifications about OS updates, you should be able to be notified at least. But for updates, you will have to get your port into Jolla's development and build system (whetever they call it), so it will be part of the normal development cycle and the official updates. I do not know if they have a way to do this for community-created ports. NOTE: I speak only for myself, not for Jolla or anyone else.

As far as I know, ported devices can use the OTA updates for Nexus 5. At least this is possible for the Oneplus X port. See here .
