Hi,

my camera is not working anymore. The App launches but not image is shown from the back camera. The front camera is working. The problem starts with the version before 2.0.2.51 (Aurajoki), after the update to Aurajoki the camera started working again. Now after some time the camera stopped working again.

Here are the journaalctl entries. First the App start with the working front cam and the second is the App start with the NOT working back cam:

Working front camera:

I think this is the problem:

Any ideas?

Well, you could simply try uninstalling the camera application and then installing it again.

To remove the camera app; pkcon remove jolla-camera and then pkcon install jolla-camera - if you don't see any change, reboot the device and check again.

Already checked if you are encountering the BTRFS issue (only possible on Jolla 1)?:

Well as it seems that it is not software related - then did you check and reconnect at least the hardware connection (ribbon cable) of the camera? Maybe also the camera modul is just defect?!

IIRC I somewhere read on TMO that the Jolla C/Intex Aqua Fish is assembled poorly and someone (I think it was HtheB) experienced a not working camera caused by a loose ribbon cable so have a look on the internals of your Jolla C. :)

but i guess the console message would be something like "could not connect to camera" or something else. front camera is working fine

carepack ( 2017-04-07 15:35:14 +0300 )edit

Well the software does not provide hardware failure/ connection error messages (and in most cases is also unable to do so), so just open your Jolla C and reconnect the ribbon cable carefully. Both cameras have a seperate ribbon cable, so if the front camera is working fine this is just another sign of a loose connection or hardware failure of your main camera module. :)

Today I teared down my Jolla C to try to reconnect the camera cables. I managed to get some more cracks in the plastic frame while prying it off. The back camera is still not working.

I can confirm that the error message that shows up in console when switching from the front to the back camera is:

CameraBin error: "Could not initialize supporting library."

My headphone jack is also worn out, it has to be in the exact position to work, so It is also useless now. Thinking of going back to my Jolla 1. I liked that size more so the Xperia X size is not very appealing to me. But I suppose the build quality is better. Jolla 1 had many issues too tough, but at least the headphone jack and camera is still working...

I know that this is an old post, but I got exactly the same issue, and it seems to be a hardware issue: the rear camera Board2Board connector's pins has cold soldering joints to the mainboard. Basically the connector pins are not soldered to the PCB but only pressed to the solder (which is on the PCB). With time as the solder oxides the electrical parameters of this joint will decrease causing hectic behaviour first then total camera failure.

With proper tooling (soldering station with small tip, proper flux and a microscope) it takes 10 minutes to fix. If you take it to a phone shop where they do board level repair they should be able to repair it.

Well it was too early to be happy. The problem still persist even if it did not appeared for a day after the resoldering :(. If anyone knows a source for a compatible camera module for the JollaC/Aqua Fish please let me know!

Hello, I have the same problem in my Intex Aquafish - the main camera shows black screen and I can activate the front camera only occasionally (but it works then).

This problem appeared after software update, so likely related to it. After the update it showed black screen but the camera worked couple of times after powering the phone off and on again.

The diagnostics pass front camera test but back camera does not.

Did anyone find a solution to fix this?

Current build is 2.1.2.3 (Kiiminkijoki).

I have had the same (except it was not related to the upgrade) issue, and in my case the camera module replacement solved the issue. (I have a replacement module a ~week from now)

The soldering of the camera's board to board connector was also crappy. (This might lead to the the camera module death.)
