Following the thread of Any success stories of buying Aqua Fish from ebay? I wonder what's your opinion about the phone? How's usage compared to Jolla 1 (if you can compare)? How's life without European 4G? How's battery life? Do you think quality is good? Any other opinions? (as a side note: I'm less interested in Android support, but feel free to talk about it)

I ask because I badly want one (or "badly want new Sailfish OS device") and I'm not sure if I should wait for some European device or buy it and enjoy it like I enjoy my Jolla1.

Currently using the Jolla C, but will switch to the Intex Aqua Fish for a while now. Also I will attend Hackover so I can share the experience with LTE in Switzerland (Swisscom) and Germany (Blau.de, O2/E-Plus).

It's a nice phone but does not feel any faster that Jolla 1. And only drawback is that in UK I am not getting any 4G with o2. Apart that it's a lovely phone

doesn't feel faster than Jolla 1?!

To me it just feels like night and day, it's so fast, battery life is much better, screen is brighter, the Android apps work so well with some more ram too. Google maps even works with GPS now ,which has never worked for me before.

I'm totally loving this phone, the price is the icing on the.cake.

I have bought two Intex Aqua Fish from ebay India. I removed Intex stuff immediately from both. Btw, there is now -10% discount available with INTEX10OFF.

Aqua Fishes work great. Only bug I have experienced this far was that sometimes there is no notification/alert for received nor missed calls.. I hope it gets fixed in next update.

LTE seems to work nicely in Finland (operator DNA)

I bought an Intex Aqua Fish from Ebay India in November '16 for 120,- CHF = 109,- €. It's originally packed, unopened. I offer it for 115,- CHF or 105,- €. h-s.jutz@gmx.ch

I have it since a week. 4G works, camera is not good but better then in my Jolla1 that did always produce blueish pics inside. ear piece is much louder too. with jolla1 i was at max volume and it was not loud enough.

you can have more apps open due to more RAM. apps are running smooth, all but wareshouse ;-)

screen has nice colours. i am satisfied. i have troubles with restore backup. contacts i was able to sync with bluetooth. rest is pending.

jolla 1 was on 2.0.4.13; after i did update aquafish to 2.0.4 i was able to restore backup.

I have been using my Aqua Fish two months now and it's going quite well. Battery life is quite terrible compared to the Jolla. 4G seems finnicky, it registers to the network but it doesn't seem to work :(

Here I am, first day with Aqua Fish. First thing first, I tryed to restore a Jolla 1 backup, but it seems it's not so easy:

What worked:

  • Photos
  • Jolla, Twitter, XMMP, Microsoft (Outlook) were correctly restored

What didn't work

  • Exchange account
  • Application list (is it under backup?)
  • Call log
  • SMSes (I had to import using commhistory-tool, no calls)

In Italy I had 4G available for both TIM and 3, so no problem here.

Both the Call Log and Messages should be restored from the backup (they did get restored on my Aqua Fish). For the exchange account to work, prior to restoring your backup install 'Microsoft Exchange' (qmf-eas-plugin package). Application list is not under backup, sadly, and you have to reinstall all the apps manually.

incognito ( 2016-10-12 18:05:40 +0300 )edit

where can i find the qmf eas plugin, how do you install it?

DarkTuring ( 2016-10-14 04:34:07 +0300 )edit

@DarkTuring you should find it in Jolla Store, is the Exchange plugin.

magullo ( 2016-10-14 10:11:02 +0300 )edit

@DarkTuring - search the Store for 'Microsoft Exchange', or install it from shell using: pkcon install qmf-eas-plugin.

incognito ( 2016-10-14 21:09:10 +0300 )edit

incognito i swarched the jolla store and did not find the plugin, and the "install" command it says is not supported from shell, am in SU level.

Something i am doing wrong?

I just wanted to experiment the ebay buying of Aquafish to Finland, worked well with total cost of about 130€. I found the dual sim so useful that I no longer use my Jolla1 much. Everything seems to work, even 4g, google services, and gaana removed. Aurajoki backup from Jolla1 via DropBox was happily restored to AquaFish. Battery life is ok, need to load every 2-3 days, better than with Jolla1 coupled with the Aurajoki battery drain. I even start to like the bigger screen. I can happily recommend the phone, and thank you Jolla team for the new SailFish phone available!

I am using an Intex Aqua Fish as my two years old Jolla1 didn't survive a cleaning cycle in the washing machine with 1600 rpm :-( so I can compare.

I have removed the Gaana app and Intex repository as described in another thread on tjc.

General build build quality is not impressive but better than I thought, given the very low price. The larger ram and the processor allow for a significant smoother experience when running a few andoidid apps as I regularly do. Battery life is much better, even with Google Services running (shame on me for using them). One full charge gives me two days, even with Wifi and Bluetooth turned on most of the time and listening to podcasts a lot. This is roughly double the time I could expect from my slightly aged Jolla1 battery.

My carrier doesn't offer LTE in it's services, so I cannot comment on that aspect. G3 works perfectly, though, and that is good enough for me.

Overall I am pretty happy with the phone and can recommend it at that price point, even though I find the form factor a bit too large - but I guess that is a matter of taste anyway.

@evo3de I have updated my answer to cover this topic. I am sorry that I cannot comment further on that aspect.

What happens to the "super app space" when you remove Gaana?

Venty ( 2016-09-21 15:17:53 +0300 )edit

@Venty It's gone and horizontal swipe traverses between home and event screen just like untainted Jolla SFOS does, e.g. on Jolla1. I have added the link to the HowTo in the answer.

Interesting! Does the Aqua Fish resist more rpm in the washing machine?
