As the title suggests, I would like to know if it is possible to use the Strava Android app on a Jolla 1. Tracking activities is not important for me personally, but viewing training results is. That's why native sports tracking apps such as MeeRun don't meet my requirements.

When I start Strava on my Jolla 1, I get the known message "Install Google Play services". After that, the Strava process dies.

One could simply say "not compatible" but that's too easy. When I tap on a Strava url (e.g. in a WhatsApp chat) and select "Open in Strava", I am able to use the Strava app without any issues. This includes viewing maps, photos, and diagrams. No problem here.

What could it be that the app crashes when invoked by the Sailfish app drawer, but works fine when opened within a third app? I already tried to install Google play services as described in https://together.jolla.com/question/30926/howto-install-google-play-on-original-jolla-phone-sbj/. I have also created an Alien dalvik logfile: log_161012144056.txt

Of cause I have already tried different versions of Strava, but without any success.

Finally I was able to solve the issue by updating Google services and installing Google maps application. Strava app works without any problems now.

The gapps link is broken in the tutorial you indicate... How you install Google services?

To be honest, I don't know in detail anymore. I followed the mentioned totorial some time ago, but this solved none of the issues of apps requiring Google services. When I was investigating my Strava problem, I again installed these files, then I was able to get updates from both Aptoide and Google Store (via apk downloader), but don't remember the exact order. Currently Google Services 9.8.77 and Google Maps 9.37.2 are installed and working on my Jolla 1. Did I mention I have no Google account at all...

i have an android for this (mainly ble and vpn). as i use tactio and runkeeper for result viewing and a wearable that syncs to strava, i had in someway a similar problem. i can highly recommend a sync service -tapiriik- as it is open source and for a small amount you can use auto-sync. manual sync is for free. or use it on your own server. just in case you don t get strava running, you coulf use it for syncing other fitness apps to strava. maybe one that works on sailfish. meerun is not supported.

Synchronization is not the problem, as it is already working to synch my Garmin Connect activities to Strava (I use a Garmin bike computer). But Strava has simply the best analyzing capabilites, and all the social networking features do only work within Strava, of cause. No other app or service can replace that for me.
