It might not be the right place to discuss, but with Jolla and the russian connection, what do you think will the new president elect mean to Sailfish OS development? Do you think it will bring new life because more people will want a real alternative to a U.S. centric phone?

I don't see how the US election would affect development of SoS. Basically becouse jolla is too small to gain or suffer from possible changes in trade roads.
What can affect jolla development is pushing new hardware to market, ending the tablet fiasco in a nice way, handle payed apps and possibly open source a bit more...

Jolla is targeting emerging markets like India, Russia, Indonesia, Africa. They have launched first phone in India. For better future Sailfish must cater to the needs of these markets rather emphasising on US Russia rivalary. Its already loosing Indian market due to lack of features like VoLte.
Gee, deep thanks for calling us an "emerging market" and listing along with such nice neighbors. Considering that everybody in Russia aged 5 or older has a smartphone and it was this way for 6 or 7 years; out of curiosity, what would you call an "emerged market"?

I don't understand what you are implying here. Do you think that more people will shun phones by US companies as a form of sabotage? Or because surveillance under Trump will be higher than with Obama? Or some other reason that I don't understand?

juiceme ( 2016-11-19 11:19:40 +0300 )editthe US is likely the most promising sailfish market, especially with revelations of NSA data collection on foreigners and Americans tunneling abroad. as the NSA gets more determined under new republican leadership so will coders and developers to make there job as difficult as possible. While currently only Germany and Russia present a large Jolla Market that might change through the new Jolla Licensing busjness model. So its somewhat independant of what governments do.
