Dear Jolla,

I would be quite interessted why the Maps app (sailfish-maps) cannot run on my Intex phone as I'm used to have it running on my Jolla.

The app is not anymore in the Jolla store catalog as well as after updating the app gets removed.

After updating to 2.0.5.6 the following packages got removed and I could not install the sailfish-maps package anymore because of the missing dependencies. The dependencies could not be installed anymore from the used sources.

  • qt5-plugin-geoservices-nokia;5.2.1+git12-1.27.1;armv7hl;installed
  • qt5-qtdeclarative-import-location;5.2.1+git12+upgrade205-1.29.1;armv7hl;jolla
  • sailfish-maps;1.1.22-10.38.6.jolla;armv7hl;installed

Could you please clarify if and what would be the reason for doing that? I tought it was part of the operating system as used by other applications (contacts) as well!?

I'm also wondering if we'll now get slowly forced to use the one or other android software!? Until this point I was able to use the SMART phone as such ... without android support.

Another question would be as well. What Sailfish OS native application could I use instead (should also be able to have the phonebook support as before)!?

Thank you.

Kind regards, megalith

To begin with, early access releases are only meant for J1 and, perhaps, a Jolla C device, excluding Intex. Secondly, I believe it is a known issue, which is mentioned in the release thread as well.

@Mr.Pancake, thank you for your feedback. That it is meant for J1 I don't know. Where do you got your information from. I have asked some days ago a question about versioning but did not have a answer yet from @Jolla. Further, why should a device which seems to me the same as the Jolla C not meant to be updated when I choose for it?

Thank you.

Kind regards, megalith

@Mr.Jeebus, thanks for your coment. May I have a look on your sources list? Thank you.

"ssu lr" is the command you could use on your console with root to show us your sources list.

Thank you.

sorry let me update you need to devel-su first then run

marxistvegan ( 2016-11-23 16:23:03 +0300 )edit

@marxistvegan, devel-su doesn't change the fact that the pakage is not there for my account, created for my Apuafish Intex phone. I guess I have to download the pakages manually and install them by hand onto the Aquafish. Poor :-I. It seems to be a politic question between jolla and other companies!? I have red in another thread that its only available for devices from Jolla (Jolla C Maps is also a exeption as in the Shop the app is not visible but installable via the console).

If you have a way of authenicating with the repository without having a jolla shop account or using another jolla shop account while doing this directly via console then let me know please.

For me its right now just about this three pakages.

Thank you, megalith

@megalith I see, well in that case it might be a licensing issue, not entirely sure, maybe someone else knows a work around.

I guess this does not get solved until somebody explains how the repositories are working. Sure could I try a lot of things in order to fly arround the issue. But I rather would like to see how this is working. This would help me at least to understand and it would help the comunity.

Thank you.

Please Jolla could you take action and explain or if anybody else could show us where this has been explained before!?

Only works for people that bought a Jolla device or had a Jolla account early on and were grandfathered in.

For intex Aquafish the error states package is not available. Intex would have to pay for maps i assume. Here implementation in Intex Aquafish and the Turing Phone was really bad though, its buggy, doesnt load, crashes all the time, couldn't determine current location etc etc etc.

Switch to maps.me a German map provider that allows offline map download as well as the option to use google services for location or not (in which case it doesnt use google services but still finds your location), this app has no crashes, is faster to load than here, for that matter almost always loads even witch crappy mobile data or network connection. Here you are fired. Jolla Maps i wish i could have you.

The native Maps app was lauded to come with Here maps back in the day. I can't remember specifics but hasn't there been some fundamental changes in the whole Here licensing environment with the ownership changes? I bought a Nokia Lumia 930 Windows phone two years back that had Here navigation as a selling point with large text on the box, but then came the Win upgrade shenaningans and those very apps were lost from the phone and from the Ovi store if you chose to go that route. Here was owned by Nokia until it wasn't, can't remember the timeline. The OP's mentioned geoservices-nokia package would I guess be connected to that thing.

Very easily could be a device-specific license for Here like with Alien Dalvik, and Intex isn't part of the deal.
