Currently you have to open a tab or search in order to enter private or normal browsing mode. In UI it would be nice to just switch modes on the fly regardless of loaded tabs, like a private browser preview window with open tabs or empty for no open tabs.

If you did that the tabs that were already open would have had access to personal data - for example cookies or local storage - and could continue to use that context data - for example in http call parameters - even if you isolated them from such data in future. You'd end up with a mix of private and non-private tabs, with some that you think are private but may not be.

You have to start private transactions from scratch, with no access to local stored data. And it's clearer to separate private and non-private tabs and make it obvious which type you're using.

@DaveRo i agree, the UI doesnt seem to flow though and i think I and other users would use private tabs more if they were more accessible, maybe there is another way then the one i described. Maybe each tab can get its own cookie and cookie controls or each tab and ts processes are sandboxed as a standard normal or private.

Good find.

Get familiar with the search field, enter "private browser" and do NOT hit enter.
