Please make available tools for operating system recovery. The part of developer community may be scared to test their software because of risk of bricking the device without any chance to fix it. It would be nice to have everything with source code in future. The binary images could help some developers also.

As I understand there could be some business reason to not publish OS images and flashing tools. From business point of view, every contract could be modified. From engineering point of view, every OS/tooling part could be replaced with opened alternative.

For legal reasons that is not possible. But next update will have new recovery image which should lower the risk of bricking.

Legal reasons should be solved. Why it is not possible? Other companies does that.

lomo: The software binaries are distributed to customers anyway. Why is not possible to publish binary image to website? Do I violate terms of use of Qualcomm intellectual property If I create an image using dd utility?

We know that you can't, but let's try to figure out an alternative. For example, obfuscating the images behind a "internet recovery" process.

While this will not prevent download of the images, maybe it is enough to keep the suits happy.

For Jolla to be able to entice FOSS programmers away from other FOSS based phone projects there is a crucial need to eliminate any secret binary "blobs" running unknown code on the Jolla phone.

Qualcomm were able to do this for the ThinkPenguin WLAN dongle so should be persuaded in seeing the benefit of open sourcing the Jolla.
