My Jolla 1 is getting old and no successor is at horizon. I mean a real one, with Android and Exchange support. With worldwide 4G bands, supporting both TDD and FDD. A phone that may get VoLTE and serve development for next years. My idea is to ask Jolla to start an Indiegogo campaign for porting Sailfish on a hardware they may choose appropriate. The market if full with great hardware from Asus, Meizu, Xiaomi etc. In other words, to fund Sailfish port trough community. I would pay 100euro for a port that is at the level of current Jolla 1.

Edit 17.Jan.2017 Just found that ZTE is running a community device trough Kickstarter. It would be great to have a community Sailfish port supported by Jolla.

sorry, if my comment is amateurish, but I thought the issue was not only funding a community port, but also a licensing issues, which Jolla did not want to continue to work with. Maybe some others can elaborate on the actual issues why picking a HW is not the only problem here...

@Cary Grant A very successful indiegogo campaign may cover licenses for android, ms exchange, porting etc. There may be other issues that I can not foreseen, but Jolla may be so kind to explain.

I know we always think that there should be an amazing hardware for our phones but I think right now Jolla C/Aquafish is a good enough choice for jolla users. I never experienced any lag with this phone. yes a better phone would be good option but I think instead of better phones we need more developers and paid apps and more support for ports of available linux apps to arm.

We really need a state-of-the-art device, with full-support. I would spend money for a campaign, under one condition:
Full source code of SailfishOS is available under FLOSS-licences

If not, forget it.

Take your money and go to manufacturers/vendors and came back with full sources to device, with specifications, service manuals and developer board with debug ports. Only then you can get device with SailfishOS on board matching all conditions you want.

@kaktux, no they don't but they're working on ensuring a good quality with open source drivers where possible
