I am keen to install node.js onto my jolla tablet so I can do some basic js coding on the move. I have very little knowledge of linux and have found this page

that explains installing node onto various distros.

Can anyone give me a hint as to what to do to achieve this on Sailfish?

You can find node.js package in openrepos and it's dedicated for SailfishOS. https://openrepos.net/content/rikudousennin/nodejs

The easiest way to install it is through Warehouse https://openrepos.net/content/basil/warehouse-sailfishos

It looks to me like warehouse does not have a package for the tablet

I forgot that tablet has different architecture. So you have two options.

  1. You can compile Node.js by yourself, here you have tutorial https://sailfishos.org/develop/tutorials/building-sailfish-os-packages-manually/

  2. Write to Rikudou_Sennin and ask him to build package for tablet.

I ended up using the android app "Termux". I can then install node to android from there. Not ideal, but works for now
