When performing Audio below microphone test from Hardware tests, the above microphone is not muted. This makes user to find false positives: the above microphone records although the below microphone is broken. I found this bug when testing an Intex Aqua Fish that has a broken below microphone.

To make a proper test do not speak but tap with your finger directly to the microphone you are testing. The above microphone can be found from Intex Aqua Fish as an little hole next to camera.

I guess the above microphone has been forgotten on because of the noise cancellation feature used in normal operation.

Edit: The CSD Tool is initialized by dialing:

*#*#310#*#*

or open Settings > About device > tap three times (or better five times) on the version number next to Build.

The CSD-tool itself might be broken: on my J1, it doesn't matter if I select the top or bottom microphone to test, in both cases the top microphone is used.

STR:

  • Open CSD
  • Select bottom microphone test
  • Press Record
  • Gently blow in bottom mic (when facing the phone, it's on the right of the bottom)
  • Gently blow in top mic (little hole on top)
  • Press Play
  • Notice how you the sound of blowing in top microphone is much louder
  • Repeat test, for top microphone

The results are identical in both cases. Also, when using the sound recorder app, only top mic is used. However, when performing a phone call, it really is the bottom mic that's being used (blowing in bottom mic is clearly audible, blowing in top mic does nothing audible)

Yes, that's right. Could you convert this testimonial to a comment, please?

I can also confirme that the bottom microphone used in calls is very bad. The other side only hears whispers!
