https://loqui.im loquiM is a free (as in freedom) multi-protocol IM client for FirefoxOS and Ubuntu touch. is supports whatsup, including encryption, among other protocols.

can it be used as base for real whatsup solution for SailfishOS ? at least until I convince all my contacts to switch to better IM solutions ?

How does it work with whatsapp? why do they allow it? as far as I know all foreign client-users get banned, how do the loqui developers avoid it? Could it be reuused for our beloved whatsup and mitäkuuluu clients too? a new native client would b perfect for me

@yorambh: the only way to convince your contacts to switch to better solutions is to stop using WhatsApp yourself. Right now. For good. If they want to contact you, they'll find a dozen other ways.

Whatsapp will block your account if they detect that you are using an unofficial client, or we would all be using Mitakuuluu.

I wouldn't be using an abandoned pre-alpha project, even though it used to be extremely promising and good looking.

Pre-alpha? It had several stable releases and worked fine. It was abandoned because WhatsApp blocked accounts.

So, is it possibly that Jolla will develop this application (not only port it) and will try to get an agreement with whatsup over using it ?

AFAIK, GPLv3 should not be a problem for application that is uneatable and replaceable.. the question remains, what is the motivation of whatsup to block other clients and can it be negotiated.
