Friends doesn't seem to work anymore, and now that facebook integration is going away again, I ask you:

Which app are you using for facebook chat+newsfeed?

The oficial Android Facebook app is too bloated and battery/resource draining, Is there anything native or at least anything with some good system integration, or do we need to resort to android clients such as metal or the older tinfoil (I don't consider official facebook lite, because, although it is not as resource hungry as the oficial app it is spyware)?

Actually I just use facebook via browser. Just put a bookmark to the app drawer so I can open the website like an app. But I'm not a heavy user of facebook so I don't know if apps offer you functions the website lacks.

IMO easiest and fastest way is to use this native webview app: https://openrepos.net/content/sailbook/sailbook

Like mentioned by others, the only working native app is Sailbookavailable at Openrepos.net (Warehouse): https://openrepos.net/content/sailbook/sailbook

It's a well made app using Facebook webview, but also has an integrated video player & notifications. So far notifications only work when the app is open (active in multitask-view). It's similar to Tinfoil, but unfortunately not open-source.

If you're ok using an Android app but don't want to go with the official one, there's also a lightweight app called "Notifications for Facebook" available on F-Droid store. In Settings/Apps you can enable "Allow application background services to start on bootup" and you'll get Facebook notifications.

Due to Facebook's more and more restricted API and regular modification it will remain a challenge to maintain a proper native Facebook app like Friends,

Does sailbook integrate with the system in any reasonable way?

I wish it were open-source, since if using it, it is going to handle all my facebook interaction!

@sdilveira: No special integration with system, except semi-working notifications - everything else I mentioned above. It's a very well done app - my only complained is the closed source...

A third-party app for facebook, which is closed source? This seems crazy to me.

thanks - hadn't seen sailbook and will be overjoyed to uninstall the android app.
