Over all the Alien Dalvik runtime does a pretty good job. It was even so good that the (Swedish) BankId app has been working reliably (with play services). A couple of times before it "encountered a permanent error" and required a new installation, but that was in conjunction with updates.. and that's fine by me.

However, since the latest update it has done that more times than all other combined, essentially allowing only one or two signatures per install. Perhaps it doesn't survive a reboot...?

I know you can't spend much time on compatibility of individual apps, but please, if you could check if permissions in the runtime was changed in this update that might be causing issues like this it would be very useful for all swedish users. The detailed explanation reads as follows (free translation):

A possible cause to this error could be if you denied the app necessary permissions at install time or have since revoked them.

If anyone has ideas on what logs i could collect to help with troubleshooting this i'll gladly do so.

I'm thinking about going back to Sailfish, but this post kind of made me hesitate.

I have a Jolla C, but have only ever used one sim card.

@speactra: Impressive! Your workaround works perfect! I could even enable the sim card and the app still starts. Seems I shouldn't trust error messages, permanent isn't at all permanent :) How did you find out?

@attah Just trial and error. I read that some other phones with dual-sim had similar problems. I hope there is a better solution though, it's abit of a hassle if you don't have wi-fi nearby.

@attah My experience is that it is super sensitive to network change. Usually I just restart alien dalvik and it works again. Sometimes it requires two presses outside of the modal because of slow init, but usually only one.

I get the Permanent Error as well and it seems to be related to the double SIM-cards on Jolla C. You did not specify which phone you are using, but here is my dirty workaround for Jolla C, sfos 2.1 and below.

The error occurs if Alien Dalvik is started while the SIM-card slots are active. After getting the error:

  1. Close BankID application
  2. Turn off both SIM-cards from settings
  3. Turn off Alien Dalvik
  4. Connect to Wi-Fi
  5. Start BankID application (it will start Alien Dalvik aswell)
  6. Wait for BankID to connect and initialize. It will state "Ready to be used"
  7. Now you can turn on the SIM-cards and BankID will work until next Alien Dalvik reset.

It's probably a whole different story on Jolla 1. I have not tried sfos 2.1 on Jolla 1 yet.

Hope you don't mind that i'll not mark the answer as correct, still hoping for that someone from Jolla could have a quick look at what is going on (initialization timing?). But indeed it will be easier for people to find the workaround like this, so you get an upvote from me.

@attah np, just wanted it to be an easy find for others with the same problem :)

@speactra see my comment above. Could you please see if a single alien dalvik restart can shave off some steps from your routine? The restart works perfectly with a single sim setup. If it is not ready the first time try one more press to dismiss the modal.

@ljo Not for me unfortunately. I've tried with one SIM in both each of the slots. I can't press outside the messagebox to dismiss the error. I get the error every time after restarting Alien Dalvik. Maybe there's a difference in how we installed Gapps, if that could affect this.

I have been using Bankid from Aptoide without problems for quite some time until recently. The reference to Google Play was ignorable.

Anyone with the same experience?

Also I plan to get in touch with the Swedish Competition Authority (Konkurrensverket) to find out if the Bankid people are in violation of rules about competition limitation.
