The standards have recently been ratified and will in time be supported by all the major browsers. It's general enough that it can serve as a platform runtime environment with plugs into the underlying OS/platform. It may offer another performant cross-platform target for developers more skilled in the way of the web and those who don't want to adopt Qt.

One should also keep in mind that Android and Dalvik won't be around forever. With ART and project Fuchsia it's not impossible that Google will pivot the platform.
