I'd like to edit text files on my phone. If the notes app could import and export text files, that would be fine. Only way to even view these exotic and novel things is in the File Browser.

I also feel that this is a major feature missing for the Jolla still and if possible should please be targeted for the next (February?) update. The most simple and basic solution would be the option to export files from the native notes app in *.txt format instead of *.vnt. So far the seemingly impossible task is, once I have written something on my phone, how the heck do I get it on my computer in a reasonable way??
Possibilities are:
1) Use the exported vnt-file and convert it to a txt-file. I am using Linux so this script was my hope: https://bitbucket.org/eug48/vnote2txt/downloads. And this is how it's used: https://www.kubuntuforums.net/showthread.php?59935-A-Kubu-script-for-opening-vnt-Vnote-files. It seems to work fine until the actual conversion, where it fails to produce a txt-file for me. Maybe it works for others, worth trying.
2) Download an Android app for text editing. The "Lesser Pad" editor from F-Droid for example is done quite well. The problem: It saves the files in the Android environment. The seemingly only way to get it out of there currently is to become root and move the saved txt-file in terminal. If you move it to your exernal SD card you can then take out the card from your phone and plug it into your computer for moving - cumbersome to say the least! If you move it to nemo/Documents it can't be read by the Documents viewer app, BUT you can add it as an attachment to an email and send it out.
Only that one of the main reasons for me to buy the Jolla (switched from iPhone, man, was I spoiled) was to exactly avoid any file-transfer over the internet. Since Linux doesn't connect via USB properly (haven't managed to get it done after hours of trying with the SSH connection thingy), since sharing via Bluetooth only works if the Document viewer app can read the file, and since the MTP connections I have tried so far only give me access to the Jolla environment folders, I am quite desperate with this. So far, I can only offer these miserable workarounds and would be glad if someone could share a better idea here! Or even better, the next Sailfish update brings a better notes export or even an office app of some kind.
P.S. Another way to get document files out of (but not in) the Android environment is to use the native Sailbox app for dropbox support. Nice, but again, doesn't work offline.

Nano is an excellent text editor.

There are many posts about it already, but none of them is really descriptive and I would be really happy for a step-by-step approach for establishing such an SSH connection via USB for Linux.

(Let me know about stuff I should fix before I try to submit it to Harbour. At least it needs an icon, I suppose. Maybe there should be a different way to save than opening the pulley menu? I'm open for suggestions.)
I suppose that, to edit files owned by root, you could always copy them to your home directory (as nemo), edit them, and then copy them back (as root). I didn't plan to explicitly support editing such files, at least not in the first version, though I could perhaps look into it sometime.

Total Commander has a built in editor but you can only save files in
