Different Apps available for Jolla 1 / C ?!

Hi,

I have a Jolla 1 and a Jolla C (which was originally an Intex Aquafish). I recognized, that I find in the Jolla Store more Apps with the Jolla C/Intex, e. g. Here We Go navigation.

But the Warehouse Store is only available on the Jolla 1. Can I install it on the Jolla C/Intex, too?

I use Libre Signal on both devices. But only on the Jolla C/Intex I am asked to update Google Play Services before I can update/re-register Libre Signal. On Jolla 1 Google Play Services is not needed for this App, and I guess on the Jolla C/Intex it is not necessary either for any App. So should/can I delete Google Play Services to update Libre Signal without it?

Or may the difference in Apps I find be because of Google Play Services only on one device? Or - another difference - I did not update the last OS on the Jolla 1, because I had very bad experiences by trying it (the phone got "bricked" and many people did not understand or even believe the problem). But one day I maybe have to try to update my Jolla 1. Or not? I think this update is for Jolla C, anyway, not meant for Jolla 1; but the phone keeps reminding that there is an update. Can / should I stop this reminder?

Thanks for reading this & best regards,

Dante

Yes, the Aqua Fish has different Software available, The original Jolla Maps are removed for newer models in favour of the android based Here Maps (Reason: Here licensing). Also, play services are easier to install along with play store through aptoid. I don't think those are preinstalled, because that would break googles license agreement.

You likely have installed Warehouse manually on your Jolla 1, you can do the same on the Aqua Fish/C.

I have updated my Jolla 1 up to 2.1.0.10 Early Access. The last updates were quite nice and brought a small (subjective) performance boost for me.

Many thanks for your answer, Velox! I did not find the Warehouse-App, but maybe it will work with Alain's link below. The point is, I want to avoid as much Google and Facebook stuff as possible. So I want to find how to deinstall Playservices - and first of all - use messengers without it (Libre-Signal works on Jolla 1 without Playservices). Deinstalling with Aptoide did not work so far, and can not find the program on the phone.

My pleasure. Yes, the link below is the right one.

hi Dante,

  1. Yes, Here We Go isn't available for Jolla1 in the Store - but instead you have "Jolla Maps" available for Jolla1. This probably has to do with licensing agreements for the use of map material (see here: https://together.jolla.com/question/136988/there-is-no-maps-app-in-jolla-c-store/?answer=139675#post-id-139675). But up to now it has been possible to install Here We Go on Jolla1 as well, just download it from another store (for example APKPure).

  2. Warehouse Store is also available for Jolla C / Aquafish. You can download it from here: https://openrepos.net/content/basil/warehouse-sailfishos (make sure you enable app installs from unknown sources in Settings)

  3. I don't use LibreSignal, but it certainly works without Google Play Services. Aquafish somehow comes with Play Services preinstalled, that's probably the reason you get the notification (see here: https://together.jolla.com/question/139748/aquafish-has-play-services-pre-installed/).

  4. So far Jolla 1 also has been getting the newest updates (including Early Access ones). My Jolla 1 is running the latest software release without any issues. There is no possibility to stop the update reminder (request for it here: https://together.jolla.com/question/85616/feature-request-postpone-os-updatesdismiss-notification/). Make sure you follow instructions before doing an upgrade, like disable 3rd party patches etc.

Hope all you questions are answered :)

Hi Alain, thanks a lot for your detailled answers. I will try your links! 3) The annoying thing is that Libre-Signal will not work any longer without the latest update. And when I want to update, I am first asked to update Play-Services. And for that I am first asked to get an Google-Account. I am not willing to become one of Google's androids. The creator of Libre-Signal told me I can find on Github how to deinstall Play-Services. I will try. At the first glance I did not see any Q&A there. By the way, I have more contacts on Threema from Switzerland, where the problem does not occure, but there is also not yet such a "Facetime"-update, as far as I know. :)

Here's a simple method to check if you really do have Play Services installed in the first place:

  • install F-Droid from the Jolla Store

  • use it to install Checkey

  • Start Checkey & scroll through the list.

I've tested it on a Jolla 1 with Play Services installed and they are listed.

Thank! Did it. Confirm: No Playservice on my Jolla 1.

Installed sucessfully on the Sailfish: Warehouse, F-Droid and Checkey. Checkey finds PlayServices on this phone. On the Jolla 1 not. Thanks! Very helpful so far. Still do not know how to uninstall. Maybe I just should reinstall LibreSignal, or maybe Signal...

@Dante Look at this thread for uninstallation instructions. Note: I haven't tested it & you may have to reboot (dalvik).

If it all works, it may be a good idea to post an answer to your question yourself summarizing all the relevant bits and accepting it as an answer. :)

edit: be sure to read all replies there, as some people had more luck just moving the apk files.
