please remove flattr support from the jolla store!

reasons:

  1. the money made through it is probably minimal
  2. flattr is in decline now for a long time - user base is shrinking - this chance would only affect few people

now the biggest reason:

  1. today eyeo (the company behind adblock plus) bought flattr. eyeo has not been convicted yet for their business model / business practice, but it is definitely morally condemnable.

i think jolla should not support this company. as much as it hurts to lose the only monetary system supported so far, at least maybe jolla will finally put some effort into creating a proper payment system, when they dont have the excuse anymore of "already having flattr support"

update: half a year later and flatter is still integrated in the jolla story. i cant stress enough that jolla should not be associated with eyeo!

update: just heard about liberapay - non-profit european patreon like service directed to artists and FLOSS coders. i dont know if theres a way to integrate it.

Just removing it without replacement seems wrong (as long as it works in some way).

Actually, I would say Flatter (or it's replacement) should be much better integrated - the need to create new flatter account externally via browser (outside of the system-wide account UI users are familiar with) and then also login via browser is probably too much for most users wanting to donate.

@misc11 that's not for us to figure out; Jolla has a better chance to find a replacement (no matter what it can be). @MartinK actually, I think flattr seemed like a good idea to begin with. But then my opinion changed once I realized that your "flattr"s expire (!), and with them the money. Or perhaps I did not get the whole point of it; hence, too complex to use for an awerage joe.

Eyeo is bad, but maybe they'll manage to change away from their current "blackmail-like" business modell with the help of Flattr. As long as they don't do anything bad with it I'd keep Flattr and give them a chance. Having alternatives available isn't bad, though.

Good idea. I always thought why not at least integrate PayPal — most opensource projects provide way to donate using it. Yandex.Money would be nice too and would make sense taking into account that their store is used already (though I do understand that it would be not that nice since it's quite russian-specific service).

I'd probably start donating money more than I do now if PayPal was an option. But most of all, I'd prefer to have paid application support and purchase the stuff.
