I have the option selected in the app settings. When i start the camera the blinking gps icon doesn't appear on the status bar. Also when i take a photo and check the exif there are no GPS info.
Anyone else seeing this?? (Jolla 1)
Edit: As it seems it works but only after some time. If you open the camera, take a pic immediately, no location is saved.

There are a lot of possible reasons why your location has not been saved by the camera app, even if you enabled geolocation services in your device's setting in one of the many possible ways. One example would be that the GPS hardware was probably not yet ready to deliver a trustworthy position to the camera app. In unfavorable conditions, it can take minutes to get a GPS fix.
To make sure a geolocation is saved within a picture taken with the camera app, you could use an app like @balta's GPS Info to make sure your devices has a GPS fix and the location can be read by apps.

Yes I have Jolla 1 and Iijoki and it does not seem to save location data. I sent the image files over BT to modern Android phone and it showed no location data.

Next I checked maps to see if gps was working. It was. Next I took another picture and this time it had gps info.
