Changing keyboard layout doesn't work well in landscape mode

It feels like only the upper third of the spacebar responds to "press and hold", which makes changing layouts annoying. It seems that attepts to hold the lower parts of spacebar are registered as that "open app list" gesture instead.
This is more pronounced in landscape mode, where spacebar is very short vertically, but actually happens in portrait mode as well.
